Biography:

I obtained a Masters in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University in 2015. I have worked in New York City and Philadelphia with a diverse range of patients in both community mental health and private practice settings. Beginning with my clinical internship at the Institute for Human Identity (an LGBTQIA+ focused practice in Manhattan) I gained experience working from a social justice lens with LGBTQIA youth and adults. I received special training to work with trans and gender-expansive individuals, especially young adults. Other specialties include: working with trauma survivors; womxn’s issues; and sociocultural, developmental, and identity issues facing young adults.

I am currently working as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in private practice in center city Philadelphia, where I serve individuals, couples, and families.  In addition, I have been studying and training in yoga asana and philosophy for over a decade and find that this view orientation enriches my approach to clinical psychodynamic psychotherapeutic work.

Approach:Therapy allows us to uncover the inner tools and wisdom that help us to get out of our own way. I am often amazed at therapy's ability help us get "unstuck" from the patterns that keep us from experiencing the fullness of life. Whether you struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationships, matters of sexual or gender identity, or some other life transition, together we will uncover the ways in which your unique inner life informs your experience of the world around you.The goals of the work will be specific to your needs, but will invariably include helping you to feel more freedom and connection in your life. I am able to use myself, & the therapeutic relationship, to facilitate a discovery process that can lead to insight.I have extensive experience working with trans/gender-expansive individuals, trauma survivors, and those struggling with relationship issues, grief, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I am also trained in yoga & meditation, which, if desirable, can be complimentary tools of self-inquiry in our work.Sophie obtained her Masters in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University.
