Depression can be a lonely and isolating experience. It can also be managed successfully with coping skills and the proper supports. I focus on self esteem building and addressing the painful self talk that might be adding to the depression cycle. Depression is also different for every individual and coming to understand how and why your depression impacts your life will be a major step in learning how to manage it and live a fulfilled hopeful life.

Mood disorders, including depression, can be debilitating. Often, the people closest to us are not able to understand or help us to move past these issues. A positive, proactive and solution focused approach in therapy can help anyone to begin to address underlying issues and move through and beyond their depression, anxiety or any other mood disorder.

While the causes of depression remain unclear, we are fortunate to have many approaches which have helped countless people regain their lives. As there may be many factors involved in why an individual is depressed I always do a thorough assessment. While I am not adverse to psychiatric medications I have concluded that their use for depression is questionable, albeit an option when combined with therapies such as Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Behavioral Activation, and Logotherapy. I have found that taking a holistic approach, tailoring the therapy to the client and their world, is the best approach to treating depression.
