We spend up to 1/3 of our life in our careers!! As a former Human Resources Manager this is an area that is really exciting. Not only will I help you identify your skill set, but help you identify your passion, your purpose and your personality type that will help you see what career is best suited to you. I can also help you identify and develop areas that will help you expand your interviewing skills, your social media profile, your resume and your confidence and also understand the hiring climate that you are in.

Career counselling may involve exploring career direction and it may also involve dealing with issues that occur in one's working life, such as those in the workplace. When exploring a career path, the client's whole self needs to be taken into consideration, including one's history and dreams (waking and sleeping.) Of particular importance is one's "inner voice" which may be calling one in a particular direction. Work situations often open up old wounds and therefore often provide an opportunity for healing and transformation.

Career counseling, although a ‘named form’ of counseling in itself, is yet quite transient. Usually once I begin working with a client who is requesting career counseling, we find that the hiccups they are experiencing in their quest is based on fear, anxiety and/or stress, health issues, sometimes addictions (or the addictions of others), anger issues, depression, or even shrapnel from their family of origin. So I do not view career counseling as a sole issue but rather a symptom. I love to work in this arena since it allows me to be a CSI agent for an hour, unlocking hidden truths that have become speed bumps along life’s journey to achieve one’s personal best.

Maybe as a child you dreamed about having a great life of abundance and achieve greatness. At that age, you were a winner and you would stand up and defend your dreams against any challenges. Unfortunately, lots of people may lose some of that winning spirit growing up and the champion in you may have slowly dimed. Maybe you do set goals and you do have an idea of what your purpose and direction in life is. This simply is not enough for you to experience the abundance in life that you deserve. You have all the potential to radically make a difference! It is already deep inside of you and waiting to be used. Together, we will work toward using that amazing potential.

Career counselling has progressed away from computer generated test scores and more along the lines of inquiry to individual likes and tendencies. This is the approach I adopt. Together we complete a Career Development Workbook, uncovering inclinations and passions using talking and connection to self and others as our tools. Once up to 3 career choices have been made, a referral to Workplace BC is often helpful for the next steps in market and career research for your choices.
