More than 30 percent of the city�s residents are over the age of 65.2 Along with cognitive challenges such as Alzheimer�s, senior couples may also deal with grief and loss, the stress of caretaking, adjustment to aging, depression, anxiety, loneliness, and suicidal ideation.3 Therapists, counselors, and other providers are available to provide mental health services to Laguna Beach�s senior couples.
Susi Q is one of the organizations in Laguna Beach providing mental health services and supportive care to senior couples and singles. Their Feeling the Blues counseling assistance program has received funding to help men and women over the age of 55 explore their mental health issues. Seniors can receive up to ten one-on-one sessions with a therapist free of charge. Call 949-497-2441 for more information regarding this program. The non-profit organization also offers support groups for Alzheimer�s caregivers, general needs, hearing loss, and LGBT issues.4
Family Services and Assistance Programs
Individuals and families of all ages can receive additional assistance in finding mental health services through the Mental Health Association of Orange County. This non-profit organization runs four service centers to serve the entire county, including Laguna Beach residents. Among their services are a clubhouse program for additional support, a back to work program, homeless outreach, a housing program, mentoring services, and more.
