Young children do not have the verbal skills to explain what is bothering them and may become angry or depressed. I communicate with children at the appropriate age level using books, games, and drawing. As we play together, your child will feel safe and find a way to express feelings not easily expressed because of lack of words. I highly specialize in working with young children. I have extensive training and knowledge in early childhood development and use a combination of play therapy and EMDR when treating children. I believe trust is the most important component of therapy with kids and put a large emphasis on building the therapeutic relationship in the beginning. I use non-directive, directive and sand play therapy when working with children. Given that younger children's brains are in a process of development and many of the more complex cognitive skills don't develop until later, play is the most effect method of learning to solve problems and process emotions or issues. As a school counselor I worked with families, teachers and children. I have trained as a synergistic play therapist, a person centered play therapist and in sand play.
