My understanding of addiction comes as a result of my academic background as well as having been in active recovery myself for the last 26 years. Without professional help from a full qualified addiction counselor the addiction frequently blocks and ultimately limits a person's ability to live a happy and productive life. Professional counseling will help people form their own basis for a meaningful recovery, by directly dealing with the underlying issues that create their cycle of addiction. Dealing directly with the addiction is critical in order for people to reach their full potential in life.

My approach to counselling is attachment based and trauma informed. I have extensive training in emotionally focused therapy, the gold standard in couple's therapy, which I apply in my work with couples, families, and individuals. Addiction often isolates us and keeps us from forming meaningful and intimate relationships with those most important to us. During our sessions I will be engaged and focused on helping you to make the positive changes you are looking to make and helping you to build stronger and more authentic relationships.

When we experience difficult times, it can be easy to turn to substances and distractions to numb the pain. This is a natural protective strategy. Some clients seek to stop this completely, while others seek to find a way to better manage their current use. Our aim is to find out what is best for you. If you feel stuck and could use support, read out to use and let's explore where to start.

While substance use typically begins as recreational activity it can become habit forming and often develops addictive behaviors interfering with other areas of our lives, such as relationships, jobs, and finances. To increase awareness and insight into the reasons for using, I offer evidence-based treatment while providing you with options along the continuum of the Harm Reduction approach towards abstinence. We will explore any underlying emotional needs and relationships. By gaining insight to any ambivalent thoughts and feelings around changing patterns of substance misuse I will support you in the setting and achieving of personal goals. Contrary to what is believed, addiction usually starts with a positive impact on a person’s life and even sometimes saves their life. However, as the time goes by, this creative adjustment becomes outdated and turns into a problem. Therefore, working with addiction should not be about illuminating the symptoms or the manifestations of the addiction, but rather trying to understand the reasons underlying the addiction and the function that it used to serve. A successful recovery is only possible through understanding and even respecting the addiction. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit.

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Alcohol use disorder (AUD) can affect mental and physical health, relationships, work, and quality of life. There are many factors that contribute to drug and alcohol use and addiction counselling can help a person explore these factors as well discuss motivation to change the cycle of addiction. I use a blend of CBT and DBT to help give practical skills to help with cravings, emotional regulation and thought processes. Registered Psychotherapist

2525 Roseville Garden Dr., Suite 204, Windsor, Ontario N8T 3J8 | 519-560-7981

I offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing for the treatment of addictions. Often, people do not understand why they feel compelled to drink or to use drugs. They just know that they have a need, and they feel like they cannot stop. CBT will help us understand your thoughts, emotions, and the physical sensations that you experience when you drink/use drugs. You will begin to understand the cycle behind your addiction. When you understand your addiction cycle, you are better equipped to interrupt the cycle by making changes.

Our approach to addiction is to look at addiction not as the problem, but rather an invitation to discover solutions to the problem. We encourage and guide our clients to look at the underlying sources of their addiction. We have found that a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Rational Emotive Therapy have been very successful when developing strategies for these clients to recognize their negative thinking, which leads to this self destructive behaviour. We can assist them with developing better coping skills, and a more positive pattern of thinking and behaving. We encourage our clients to develop a strong support network outside of therapy.
