To increase awareness and insight into the reasons for using, I offer evidence-based treatment while providing you with options along the continuum of the Harm Reduction approach towards abstinence. We will explore any underlying emotional needs and relationships. It has been said that underlying addiction there is always some kind of trauma. It has also been said that they way to recover from your is to find something in your life that is bigger than it. Addiction brings pain and chaos individuals, couples and families. I see addictions as poor and destructive coping mechanisms and work with individuals and couples to interrupt the behavior and work to process the pain underlying the behavior. I am very familiar with 12 step programs and CSAT work that help individuals and couples make sense out of the addiction. I also work within a complementary framework of attachment and the importance of strong close inter-dependent, not co-dependent relationships with the most important people in one's life, family. Call me for a consult about your particular needs and situation.

I offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing for the treatment of addictions. Often, people do not understand why they feel compelled to drink or to use drugs. They just know that they have a need, and they feel like they cannot stop. CBT will help us understand your thoughts, emotions, and the physical sensations that you experience when you drink/use drugs. You will begin to understand the cycle behind your addiction. When you understand your addiction cycle, you are better equipped to interrupt the cycle by making changes.

Often times counseling triggers strong emotional reactions. Addictions are counter-intuitive to counseling, because they numb the feelings. Therefore, before attending your addictions counseling session, you must be free from your substance of choice for 24 hours prior to the session, and for 24 hours after the session. Only then will you be able to experience the full effects of the counseling session and begin the healing process. I offer 10 minute coaching phone call sessions in between counseling sessions for the first few weeks, to assist with the withdrawal from the substance. However, motivation to change is mandatory for the healing to begin.
