Family therapy is in many ways the most difficult of all therapy’s simply because you have the issues of not just one person but also all involved. There is a multiplication factor equal to the number within the family plus the dynamic of how the family organizes itself around communication, conflict, and intimacy and supports it. All successful families do two things extremely well . . . create a sense of belonging and allow for the freedom to be an individual. When I work with families I bring over twenty five years of experience to every session. When a family is facing serious illness, end-of-life decisions (including MAiD), or the aftermath of a loss, emotions and practical responsibilities can become overwhelming for everyone involved. In family sessions, I create a structured & respectful space where family members can speak openly about fears, hopes, and difficult decisions while remaining connected to one another. Drawing on narrative therapy, ACT, and my experience in hospice palliative care, I help families navigate communication challenges, honour different perspectives, and focus on what matters most during this time. These conversations reduce conflict, strengthen understanding, and support a more compassionate experience.

For over 10 years, my approach is very much client-centred, drawing from both Family Systems and Solution-Focused theories. I also use psychoeducation and Play Therapy in sessions. I have found these approaches widely accepted by previous clients who seem to want to gain understanding as to why things were occurring in their relationships, but also quickly wanted to press on towards practical solutions.

In the mediation process, as a neutral party, I assists the disputing parties resolve their disagreement by facilitating their discussions and guiding them to appropriate resources and possible solutions until they reach desired outcomes. *Family mediation is not psychotherapy, marital counseling, or legal representation.
