I am a registered psychologist (provisional) in the province of Saskatchewan. My approach to counselling is eclectic, humanistic and collaborative. I use strategies from many theories such as client-centered, solution-focused, CBT, DBT, and evidence-based strategies for long-term weight loss. You are a unique individual and together we will discover what works best for you! Educationally, I have earned a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina. I also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Canadian Bible College (Ambrose University). I have been helping people professionally since 2003.

Christians as much (perhaps even more than others) seek an evidence-based approach to therapy. They will embrace therapy when they meet with a therapist who shows respect for their worldview and religiously-based values, provided the model used by the therapist also is inherently respectful of their religious beliefs and practices. I have a Christian background and I do identify with core Christian principles, so I have naturally integrated certain skills, approaches and metaphors that reflect Christian principles. The ACT model is particularly useful when dealing with spiritually-mind and biblically-oriented clients.

Life can be so difficult & people can start doubting & blaming the troubles they are having on God. They become discouraged & wonder, if God is a God of love, why would He allow them to suffer with such problems. Paul asked the question, "Does that mean that God no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or are hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? " (Rom 8:35) We must never confuse God with life. Jesus tells us that he will never leave us or forsake us. "Nothing can separate us from the love of God." (v38). Maureen helps clients find joy & peace, learn how to trust Him more readily & live with confident hope (Rom 15:1).

Spirituality is a part of our core as individuals. As a Christian this means we follow a certain type of spirituality, that often affects every area of life. I offer a nonjudgmental space where people can ask questions about their faith as they seek to reconcile what the Bible teaches with their experience of life. Whether you wish a counsellor who recognises your Christian faith as valid, a nonjudgmental space to ask those deep scary questions, or have been through a difficult experience in your faith community, I am here to support, encourage and believe that God is with you.

I provide counselling based on 3 disciplines: Christian Theology & Psychology (Masters degree level), and Philosophy (Hons degree level). My personal life & worldview is based in Christ. I am trained and well experienced in using Biblical principles and values in counselling and therapeutic interventions. Although my personal life & worldview is based on Christian principles, my philosophical background and training, enables me to accept and use the wide variety of different world views and values of clients, to work with them on personal challenges, in order to reach desired therapeutic outcomes.

Are you looking for a well-trained counsellor? My Masters Degree in Counselling came from Briercrest Seminary. Perhaps you’ve found difficulty identifying or finding empathy? I believe strongly that the three persons of God are the model for relationship in marriage, and between family members and individuals. God's Holy Spirit and the client help me to discern what is needed for healing. God's love enables a Christian counsellor to be able to empathize fully enough to find themselves in their client’s shoes. I look first to the Bible for inspiration about the basic needs of people for attachment to each other and their creator. My practice is built on the basis of openness and honesty.

Therapy is a vulnerable process and it can help to speak to someone who shares your worldview. As a Christian Counsellor it is so clear to me that God has given us wisdom in his word. Psalm 119:105 reminds us, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path." Alongside evidence based counselling methods, I embrace the opportunity to use scripture and prayer for clients who are open to this approach. I believe that so much of what we are learning about health and wellbeing in the field of psychology is already revealed in scripture.
