ESHA'S APPROACH WITH CLIENTS:
I have always been curious about how things work. I am fascinated by learning how our mind and body works, what happens when things are not working properly, and what helps to repair and recover. I use this curiosity when working with clients, my therapeutic approach is collaborative. I value a client’s wisdom, self-knowledge, and personal strengths they bring into therapy and seek to incorporate these in our work together.
My counselling practice incorporates evidence-based techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based approach, and family systems approach.
When working with clients, I also incorporate and tailor my techniques with art, play and mindfulness, this helps to create a balance between working on skills and providing empowerment.
During the course of my studies, I became interested in working with youth and families suffering with anxiety, depression, grief, transitions and trauma. During my graduate studies, I did an extra 300 hours of internship work with child and youth mental health. I completed practicum work at a drop-in youth health clinic, with Share Family and Community Services, in addition to work with the ministry of child and family development-child and youth mental health department.
I have special interest in working with:
Youth and Families
Life and Role Transitions (e.g. new baby, passing of a loved one, new work/school & etc.)
Recovering from Trauma
Multicultural Clients (As a first generation immigrant, I can understand the struggles of connecting cultures, I also speak Hindi, Bengali, and limited Punjabi)
In addition, I work regularly with clients dealing with:
Self-Improvement and Growth
ABOUT ESHA CHAKRABORTI:
My journey in the counselling profession is unique. Though I have always seen myself destined towards a helping profession, I came across counselling as a caregiver for elders in my family. That's when I discovered services for personal and family counselling, and valued the help I received.
My interest in helping people combined with my love of studying biology and psychology led me towards the counselling profession. I want to return the support I received and help you find light through confusion and darkness.
Before committing to my Master's in Counselling Psychology, I spent two years as a crisis line call taker, two years as a research assistant for a psychology lab, and four years volunteering as a victim support worker for the police.
From my experiences, I know it is a great honour to help you find meaning, answers, awareness and walk alongside you through a difficult time. I do not take this responsibility lightly and will hard work to help you push past the difficult time in your life. Counselling provides a safe and supportive avenue to express concerns, thoughts and work on personal or family issues towards a path of growth.
Thank you for having the courage to seek out counselling, I welcome you to connect with me to see if counselling is a right fit for you.
