Is anyone tired of traditional "Christian" Counseling? I know I came to that place in my life growing up, when I didn't just want to hear that God could heal all of my messes (even though I knew He could - if it is His will), I wanted to know that someone (hear on earth) had my best interests at hand too! However, there is still evil around us, and we certainly don't just want to put our hearts in minds into the hands of just anyone. It is important, in my opinion, to have an educated counselor that knows what he or she is doing, who also see's counseling as a partnership between him/herself (the counselor), God and the power of prayer, and of course the client.

As a Christian, it is actually impossible for me to relate to my clients in an authentic way if I deviate from my worldview. As a pastor and an evangelist, I have firm faith in God that I offer therapy with God’s loving kindness. As a pastoral therapist who aspires to strong principals, ethics, and Christian faith, I believe that Jesus is a key for all. I have a strong conviction that the goal of therapy should include both psychological and spiritual wholeness. Every situated proportions, it depends on the setting, theory of the belief system and expectations of the client. In my judgement the best way to accomplish this goal is walking through faith step by step. I will help my clients to rediscover the love, support, acceptance, collaboration, and kindness, and create a strong, loving relationship in Christ.

When clients specifically request our counselling sessions to have a Christian focus I am able to integrate scriptual teaching & Christian counselling research within the broader field of psychotherapy assessment & treatment. When I take a Christian approach I find that therapy works towards alleviating psychological stressors while helping people to appropriate a deeper understanding & appreciation of the grace of God.

The Christian lens I provide is based on the principles of speaking the truth in love, laying aside all masks & pretence and being congruent. By providing empathy, comfort, education, conviction, encouragement through a gentle process forged by listening and building trust, I offer a safe environment for people to release emotional pain. I can apply biblical principles to spur change in people’s hearts. This process is facilitated through personal responsibility while harnessing the brain's ability to heal whether by combining insights from social sciences, strengthening neural connections with brain training via Neurofeedback or processing barriers due to emotionally charged memories with EMDR.

My approach to Christian counselling is informed by years of studying philosophy, theology, and the history of Christianity. Beyond denominational differences, I often see people struggling to nurture their spirituality and to feel God’s presence in their daily lives. For many, faith becomes difficult during times of uncertainty, doubt, or suffering. In counselling, I help clients reflect more deeply on their faith, explore its meaning in their lives, and reconnect with a sense of purpose and hope. Faith is a gift, but counselling can help people engage with it more consciously and find strength and direction through it.

I counsel clients from a christian ministry. God is there to heal, and I support clients through god's words. We pray and seek his guidance, to overcome the stress that is overwhelming you, it may be anxiety, depression, disconnect of a relationship with a loved one, lack of self-care and/or other new stress that you need counselling support. Whether it is physical or mental pain, I use many therapeutic techniques, together with Christian beliefs to help clients heal.

I believe that spirituality is a large component to building healthy relationships, overcoming life circumstances, and addressing big life questions. I encourage the exploration of your spirituality in the midst of your pain. My orientation is based on a Christian world view; however, I welcome clients with any religious orientation. Each session is built around your unique goals and personal world view. I welcome the opportunity to join with you wherever you are on this journey.

I am a practising Catholic. I use a common sense approach and I respect all religions. There is no right or wrong religion. My faith has helped me many times during my lengthy career. For 14 years I was a consultant with the BC Coroner's Office and I did psychological autopsies of teens that either committed suicide or were suspected of committing suicide. Many times my faith gave me the strength to support those grieving parents in the most terrible time of their lives.

While Pacific Coast Counselling in Abbotsford does not offer "biblical" counselling, at least one of our therapists identifies as Christian. This may also be helpful for clients who are/were Christian and wish to feel understood at a deeper level around issues of spiritual abuse, trauma, grief and loss, anger with God, purity culture, deconstruction of faith etc..
