Understandably this has caused tremendous pain to people searching for unconditional acceptance. I assure you that throughout my life in professional study and personal experience I have felt the same sense of rejection and religiosity. Approaching counselling from a Christian perspective is not about relying on God to solve your problems, but rather learning how to align oneself to live and work within his created world and intentions for our happiness. Free will is an essential gift that allows us to explore this creation and find meaning and happiness that has been inspired by God. Developing a trust in God to guide and direct us in this task is an essential process in establishing faith that God will keep us safe whiling using our freewill and experience to look both ways before we cross the street.

I counsel clients from a christian ministry. God is there to heal, and I support clients through god's words. We pray and seek his guidance, to overcome the stress that is overwhelming you, it may be anxiety, depression, disconnect of a relationship with a loved one, lack of self-care and/or other new stress that you need counselling support. Whether it is physical or mental pain, I use many therapeutic techniques, together with Christian beliefs to help clients heal.

I am a practising Catholic. I use a common sense approach and I respect all religions. There is no right or wrong religion. My faith has helped me many times during my lengthy career. For 14 years I was a consultant with the BC Coroner's Office and I did psychological autopsies of teens that either committed suicide or were suspected of committing suicide. Many times my faith gave me the strength to support those grieving parents in the most terrible time of their lives.

My faith based approach to counselling offers help towards healing and change. I am warm and non-judgmental, able to help with issues surrounding divorce and separation, co-parenting, anxiety and depression and anger management. I use my own faith and belief to lead my efforts in the counselling process. Through the help of a trained, professional counselor you can feel supported in any life transition.

I know I came to that place in my life growing up, when I didn't just want to hear that God could heal all of my messes (even though I knew He could - if it is His will), I wanted to know that someone (hear on earth) had my best interests at hand too! I am pleased to offer my Christian clients, counselling from a Christian perspective. For some people it is important to know that their counsellor understands both their spirituality and their values and ethics from their Christian perspective. I understand and practice a Christian way of life so if my clients so choose I can help them navigate their life through a Christian lens. Although not Biblically based counselling this means taking into consideration Christian values and doctrine to help clients move in a manner congruent with their beliefs.

I believe that spirituality is a large component to building healthy relationships, overcoming life circumstances, and addressing big life questions. I encourage the exploration of your spirituality in the midst of your pain. My orientation is based on a Christian world view; however, I welcome clients with any religious orientation. Somehow when we know that Jesus is the one who is doing the healing, and we place our trust in Him, we can find peace within the journey of healing. "Come to me.....and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28). I am a counselor of Christian faith and I use healing prayer and the Bible along with cognitive and mind-body approaches in my work with Christian clients.

God is amazing! He's always present, knows everything, and always has our backs. Still, there are times when it feels like He is distant, unresponsive, maybe that He's abandoned you. Been there.... But looking back, He was there during my hardest times, even when I thought He wasn't. He's there for you too during whatever challenges you're going through. Our relationship with our Creator and Saviour can always be improved. How? Look through the books of the Bible. (My personal favourites are Job, Esther, and Ruth.) They are just as relevant today as way back when. Let's bring those stories and lessons into your life and let God work wonders!

In a place of love we are not afraid, there is acceptance in the presence of Christ and therein the freedom and safety to change. Current research into key factors of therapeutic healing points to "attachment:" Defined, this term matches the Biblical description of Love. Christ's Love is strong, restorative, clarifying and empowering. As we address the challenges and issues that are part of our earthly walk the love of Christ is here - present, strong and safe. In counselling we will prayerfully seek support in addressing relational and individual concerns

Many people feel there is something beyond everyday life, but they don't know how to let it heal and empower them, how to live it out. If you wish to open to an experience of the transcendental, divine in our life, to an awareness of how this can be lived, and in respect of your understanding of the meaning of Christian message, I'd be happy to work with you. I help clients work through the issues that prevent them from having the life that they want for themselves. Christian clients that want to work from a biblical perspective are helped by addressing the issues through the lense of their belief system. We can look up bible verses that address the topics that they are wanting to work on in the appointments.

For many people, spirituality is an important part of their belief system and helps inform who they are. While I work with clients of all backgrounds, many clients specifically seek out therapists who share similar values and beliefs as them. In offering counselling to Christians, I do not impart my views or beliefs, but simply hold space for you to process your experiences and allow you to ask yourself questions you may not feel comfortable asking in other places.

As a Christian, it is actually impossible for me to relate to my clients in an authentic way if I deviate from my worldview. As part of my graduate training in psychology, I also completed a Masters in Theology, as well as a pastoral practicum. My psychology training also included a focus on the integration of psychology and spirituality; how they can influence and strengthen each other. However, I never seek to inject my own beliefs into therapy! Rather, I feel it is important for me to understand how your faith and beliefs are a part of your understanding of your issues and how you can draw upon them. I try to see each of my patients as whole people, and that includes their faith and beliefs.

As a Christian, my practice reflects that. My formal training was at a Christian University. Not all my clients are Christian, which is fine and something I respect. However, for those clients who are Christians, I will integrate prayer, Scripture, and Biblical principles and values into my counselling. Scripture, God's truths, give a road map into life's challenges. I believe the Holy Spirit guides me and gives me wisdom as I work with my clients as well. God loves you and wants you to live a life of healing and freedom.

The Christian lens I provide is based on the principles of speaking the truth in love, laying aside all masks & pretence and being congruent. By providing empathy, comfort, education, conviction, encouragement through a gentle process forged by listening and building trust, I offer a safe environment for people to release emotional pain. I can apply biblical principles to spur change in people’s hearts. This process is facilitated through personal responsibility while harnessing the brain's ability to heal whether by combining insights from social sciences, strengthening neural connections with brain training via Neurofeedback or processing barriers due to emotionally charged memories with EMDR.

I was raised and educated in the church, and wherever I go, this background follows me. Maybe you're in the same boat: and the boat doesn't always sail smoothly, but it keeps you from drowning, all the same.
