Anger management counseling can help to identify stressors and learn the steps to stay calm in the face of anger. The goal is to handle tense situations in more constructive and positive ways by reducing the emotional and physical arousal that anger can cause. It will provide the tools to take back your life and resolve the triggers that result in unplanned anger reactions.

In our culture, anger is often more of a reactive emotion that covers up other, more vulnerable emotions. A common example is men who are taught as children that it is more acceptable to show anger than sadness. So, after awhile, whenever sadness or vulnerability is felt, it immediately gets replaced with anger, which is what is most often experienced by others. My approach to dealing with anger is to discern whether anger is the true emotion felt or covering up something else. Than, depending on this, to build more acceptance and tolerance to what is underneath the anger so that it can be expressed in a healthier way, which regulates anger more effectively.

If you are angry, there's a reason for it. I will not help you to simply "manage" your anger. Rather, I will work with you so that you come to a full understanding of the root cause or reasons for your feeling this way. I will teach you simple, yet highly effective, techniques so that you learn to tolerate your more turbulent, uncomfortable feelings, to express them in a manner that is healthy for you and for those you are in relationship with and to work with, not against, your body's own internal wisdom.

In our work together to address anger and/or anger management, we would first try to identify the underlying emotions that are fueling the anger. Anger is a "masked emotion". It is usually covering other emotions like fear, shame, disappointment, regret, sadness, anxiety and/or frustration. By identifying these foundational emotions, we can determine the unique means by which we can lessen and manage the anger that is getting in the way of you enjoying your day to day life.

Anger is a reaction to a feeling of being victimized in some way. It is an attack on ourselves or on someone else in an attempt to draw attention to pain. When seen as a cry for love, it is easy to find what belief is creating the outburst of anger and correct the belief and the reaction to it. I have no interest in controlling anger, but replaceing it with love.

I look at what it is that is making us angry, and our attitudes. Sometimes the practice of patience may be required. Sometimes we need to rehearse using our communication skills to make sure that our point is getting across. We need to examine what is triggering us, and how we can find relief. Negotiation might be necessary to come to an agreement, or a practice to release our anger.

Many people struggle with anger management. Anger management counselling can help you identify where these feelings are coming from and identify when they are about to happen in order for you to learn to control these strong feelings. Counselling is a great way to tackle these struggles as the therapy is tailored to you and your specific issues while in a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental environment.

Anger is one of the fundamental emotions we can feel for a variety of reasons. When we feel someone has done us wrong or someone else that we care about. It can be motivating to feel anger in that we are more inclined to try and correct or help to restore an injustice we feel has happen, which is all equal to healthy ways of being. However, for some, anger can equal outbursts of rage and feel completely out of control and dangerous. People who experience this or witness this feel that anger is not a good thing, so I describe this type of anger as dis-regulated anger. I help clients learn to regulate their anger so that it feels they are in control and anger is accessed in a health way.
