I will go over with clients situations that result in them being angry, triggers of their anger and what their thoughts are when they are angry. We will go over how we think affects how we feel and how we feel affects how we behave. We will go over ways to help clients regulate their emotions better when they are angry. Strategies can include ways to manage impulse control, breathing exercises, and relaxation exercises overall.

Anger is a strong emotion and when not regulated in a healthy manner, it can impact us in different ways. It can impact the most important relationships in our lives, our work and even how we feel about ourselves. When working with anger, I want my clients to first listen to what anger is trying to tell them. Anger, like any other emotion, has a message for us. It might be trying to tell us something about the pains we have never dealt with, the boundaries in our lives that are being crossed, and the changes that we desire in our lives. Once we learn to your anger and hear it out, we will work on tools to regulate it better and express it constructively without suppressing it.

Anger and frustration can be a huge issue for some clients. Often we don't learn healthy ways of expressing our frustration and this results in explosive anger and aggression. In many families anger and frustration aren't expressed so it is ignored and stuffed until it impacts your health or eventually comes out in destructive and harmful ways. I work with clients to change their relationship with anger and aggression and find effective ways of dealing with and expressing frustration. I will help you develop healthy ways of coping and be able to communicate and express your frustration and your needs before it comes out in a way that feels embarrassing and shameful.

Anger mangement is primarily based on Cogntitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), though is integrated with other approches considering the needs, age and situation of the individual. Art and Play therapy may be used with children, (as well as Art Therapy for adults) in the understanding, expression and processing of anger in intent to reduce the experience of anger and its expression. Positive coping and management are promoted and families (parents+kids) in conflict can expect to explore ideas / models of conflict reduction. In this way, parents of kids should expect to be involved in learnining how to deal with anger and how to assit their children in learning improved ways of anger management

My approach is to use a step-by-step process that follows an evidence based approach: goal setting; self awareness; cognitive reframing; behavioural modification; review of progress. Fundamental to the work is a good therapeutic relationship. That is, we have the collaboration and trust to combine your knowledge of yourself and your situation and my skills and knowledge of the clinical issues to make change happen.

Anger is a surface level emotion. There is nothing wrong with anger as it serves a useful purpose alerting us to how passionately we feel about a given circumstance. It is when we lose control of ourselves and react instead of creating a purposeful action to that event. Looking to our deeper beliefs, emotions, and values is key to understanding our anger and being able to use it in a constructive way. Your emotions are real and legitimate; don’t let anyone take them away from you. However, you have the responsibility to communicate them constructively and use them in ways that enrich your life. By learning how to use your anger as an alarm that tells you to communicate your thoughts, values ....

It is my hope that clients will learn strategies to assist them in more effectively managing emotions of anger and the accompanying negative behaviours. Clients will explore and identify underlying causes of such emotions, as well as situational “triggers”. It is also my hope that clients will develop communication skills that will promote healthy interactions and successful resolutions of conflicts should they occur.

Anger is not an emotion....did you now that?? It came as a surprise to me, since my whole life I just assumed it was. However, instead, anger is a type of communication we choose to use when we are hurt or feel that we are being treated unfairly or taken advantage of. Now this is good news! Methods of communication are a lot easier to change than are the feelings we encounter - although even feelings can be changed. Don't let your ANGER communication style- cramp your relationships or prevent you from getting want you need out of life and from your loved ones. If you want to change, help is a close as a phone call away. Marriage-Works, is focused on helping you find the peace you want

Anger can be understood as a secondary emotion. This means that oftentimes, there is another emotion, such as sadness or fear underlying our anger. Anger can be a strong and uncomfortable emotion for many; my approach is to help clients first regulate their feelings of anger, help them identify the triggers, and connect with their underlying emotions to bring awareness and healing.

In many situations, it is most helpful to find the wound under the anger, the place where the person took the hit. Then, we can attend to the wound. We see what needs help in that place and what it might need to begin healing instead of festering. Many times the same place is getting hit over and over, without any resolution. It is also helpful to have some effective coping strategies for what to do to deal with anger when it comes. Working from both ends, anger begins to subside and leaves room for forward movement and new life experiences.

Want to control and manage your anger more effectively? Want to gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of your anger? Want to channel your anger to more constructive outlets? Many therapists often simply help their clients to control their anger such as timeout, breathing, etc. I use EMDR therapy to help you calm your brain and your nervous system so that your fight response does not get activated automatically. You become a calmer person who thinks with clarity. I use hypnotherapy to help you gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of your anger, and transform yourself to become a wiser person. Angry no more! Let your inner calmness shine! Call 604-223-7112!
