Managing anger means managing your need to have things your way even if your way seems reasonable to you. It means questioning your sense of entitlement to having your way. Anger can be a strong communication to others that what one is angry about really matters. As an initial response it can be a powerful impetus to change but unless one takes some kind of action following the anger it will only serve to reinforce a sense of powerlessness. Anger can be a way to impose ones will. Sometimes people learn that this works in the short term but in the long term it never really does.

It often feels like Anger arises without warning. Before we know it, we are in the midst of an angry outburst. It doesn't need to be this way! At Menla Psychological Counselling you will learn ways to regain control of your anger, rather than having it control you. The goal of anger management isn't to get rid of anger, it is a valid emotion after all, but rather to stop anger from causing chaos and pain in your life.

Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D approaches issues of anger management in a very humane yet fresh perspective. You see, anger is a normal emotion but it is the valence (intensity) as well as the coupling choice of what one does with this that is the problem. Telling someone to "not" do it or modifying behavior with a trite psychological plan that only breeds a compliant response is not the way to change anger. Brainwave optimization is a new cutting edge technology that allows one to rewire circuitry responsible for reactivity driving the anger. Anger can be one of the more misunderstood emotions. It can be just anger, or it can be the face of underlying hurt, shame and loneliness. I work with clients to faciliate a greater understanding of the meaning of thier anger, where it comes from and what is supporting it. It is this increase in understanding that then helps us move forward to improved coping and management of these intense emotions.

People that have a hard time controlling their anger have difficulty dealing with pressures from other people, the outside world, other people and the way stressors impact on them. Day to day problems, negative thoughts and beliefs, loss of control, mistrust, and interpersonal relationship problems are common issues experienced by people who have difficulties managing anger. Therapy can help you explore the issues behind your anger while learning strategies to control your anger and communicate your needs. Negative thoughts and beliefs will be challenged while exploring and enhancing your personal relationships.
