More than 4% of adults are depressed at any given time, and more than 15% of adults will be depressed at some time in their lives. As well, depression is more commonly suffered by women than men; in men it often is expressed as anger. Many capable, intelligent, and accomplished people have been depressed. Being depressed does not mean that you have a “weak personality” or a character flaw! Dealing with depression on your own is very difficult. Deborah offers professional, caring, and effective therapy to assist you in addressing depression and improving your quality of life. Depression is a very common experience in today's society. Contributors to depression can be genetic and/or circumstantial. Ongoing stress can cause low levels of neurotransmitters and an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, which can lead to increased anxiety and depressive states. My practice focuses on considering several factors in overcoming depression, including lifestyle/physical health, strategies that can support brain function, working to identify and reframe negative thoughts and beliefs, as well as healing painful experiences. Therapeutic approaches utilized include cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal therapy and EMDR when depression stems from traumatic circumstances.

Depression has been called the "common cold" of emotions. We all "feel down" at times. ,Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, EMDR and other therapies can be effective in alleviating depression. Often a combination of antidrpressant medication and therapy are the most effective combination, however the approach used is always discussed with the client and their wishes are taken into account.
