While grief and transition are a natural part of life, we are still often overwhelmed by sadness, anger and all the confusing emotions that come with loss. There is no right or wrong way to grieve—just your body and mind doing what it can to process the pain of major life change and the loss of how things were. Working with me means compassionate care that helps you to approach and feel your feelings in a safe way, taking things one step at a time. Grief and loss are experienced differently for each person - so therapy must be individualized and tweaked just for you and your situation. It is a process not an event and so we go over your story together and look for those events and perceptions that are uniquely significant to you. That tells us where to start, and what to expect. There is no "normal" when it comes to grief and loss, but you can get back to feeling normal for you.

The pain of grief and loss comes in many forms. There is no one way to grieve and no one way to work with it. Your loss might be the death of a loved one, grieving a life once lived, or a relationship that has ended. Looking at the stages of grief allows us to understand what is happening, and with that knowledge, we move forward one step at a time into the new normal.

I will create a safe space and take a non-jugemental, client centered approach to our counselling sessions. We will move at a pace within your comfort zone. I understand that grief and loss are very personal and individualized for each person. If trauma is present I will take a trauma informed appraoch to your care during our counselling sessions. I am also trained, educated and have personal experiences within grief & loss and that is why my compassion is exceptional.

When we lose something or someone we value, big or small, we often do not know how to respond. Loss begins a life-altering journey that can be enraging, unpredictable, painful, laborious, exhausting, and isolating. There is no recovery manual that maps out time, effort or distance. Liz's empathetic approach provides the space needed to navigate and narrate unchartered territory, while respecting that healing is a process. She facilitates the unpacking of personal experiences and works collaboratively to design a living plan that honors the relationship with grief while also creating a new way of being that is authentic and unique.

Our therapeutic relationship will help the client to assimilate their emotions with reality and to use the power of each emotion, and their own unique experience of loss so that they can function and move forward in life.
