Stress, anxiety, and panic attacks are all too common in our sometimes overwhelming day to day lives: partners, work, children, family and other stressors are constantly pushing us to the breaking point. We also can experience anxiety that seemingly comes out of nowhere, anxiety that seems irrational such as a fear of getting out of the house, shopping, being around people or strange places. I work with my clients to overcome these fears; not only do I help relieve the symptoms with tried and true CBT methods, but I also like to go a bit deeper and look for the causes of anxiety. When these causes are addressed, the anxiety is more likely to go away for good.

Anxiety can leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck in your head, or constantly on edge. You might notice racing thoughts, tension in your body, or trouble relaxing. Together, we take time to understand where your anxiety comes from and what keeps it going. With support, understanding, and self-awareness, you can feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to face situations that once felt overwhelming. Clients often notice improved confidence, reduced stress, and the ability to manage their thoughts and emotions more effectively.

Anxiety and stress can be consuming and prevent people from living their fullest lives. I offer practical treatment to help people learn to manage and reduce feelings of anxiety for a more peaceful day to day life in which emotions and fears do not take over. Clients learn to challenge and reduce their anxiety with my support and guidance and learn calming techniques, thought challenging, and emotion management. Learning healthy ways to cope with stressful situations is also a priority. There are both physical, mental, and emotional benefits to managing and reducing stress and anxiety, e.g., reduced blood pressure, reduced muscle tension and aches, a sense of calmness, confidence, and so on.

Oftentimes people view anxiety as a bad feeling, however, through their work with me clients often find ways to live with their anxiety and turn the situation around. Anxiety is generally a fear of a wide variety of things, by addressing the roots of the anxiety and understanding that it can be faced head on, clients often find relief from the things that make them anxious. My work with anxiety is always gradual and clients are first made comfortable with their anxiety and then learn to cope and at times reduce anxieties where appropriate.

While most treatment approaches for anxiety and stress are effective on the surface, they don’t treat the real problem. Mantras, deep breathing, and rational dialogues about your fear being irrational rarely work---for most people don’t believe it or you! Imagine if you can trick the brain into changing without you telling your conscious mind that you are changing it? Problem with anxiety and stress is that the brain in this state knows you want to change it and it resists. Contact Kevin@kevinflemingphd.com for the ultimate stress and anxiety solution that will literally change your brain's autonomic nervous system patterns while you sit on your butt. 877-606-6161.

Life is a lot, especially for Millennials and Gen Z trying to navigate careers, relationships, and constant pressure to keep it all together. Your mind’s racing, your body’s tense, and no matter what you do, it never really feels like enough. Anxiety and stress can take a serious toll, emotionally, mentally, and physically. In therapy, we’ll slow things down, explore what’s fueling the overwhelm, and give you tools to feel more calm, grounded, and in control again. You don’t have to keep holding it all together alone.

As a Somatic (SE) therapist- mental & emotional health follows the state of the nervous system. If it is flowing seamlessly between sympathetic and parasympathetic; arousal and settling, within a “manageable range” there’s a deep, internal sense of well-being, emotional stability, confidence, clear thinking, aliveness, trust in self and others, and mastery. With SE we will focus on: Your experiences... in the body Learn to track, observe, describe what is going on for you Regulate internal arousal states, shift locked patterns into action, increase body awareness. Encourage emotional engagement with attention to: mindfulness, sensations, movements and impulses. Here & Now find YOU!
