My approach to career counselling includes an appreciation for the fact that work needs to include joy and purpose, or it's just a job. As I help people build skills relationally and increase self-awareness around their needs and respect for others, they will grow in confidence and reduce stress that can hijack their best version of themselves. I love to help people become more aware of their capacity and vulnerabilities, so they grow in competency. This has a way of increasing their experience of joy and purpose in the workplace or find the courage to make a change.

Some of the dominant things which make up our identity as adults are the thoughts and feelings which we associate with our career. Facing a career change then, be it because of choice or circumstance, can often have the power to affect our entire emotional being. Here at Whiteboard we support clients in areas such as personal assessment, goal setting and personality testing in order to help them gain clarity and make sound decisions during transitional times.

Career counselling can be equated with understanding ourselves. Sometimes we are looking for financial success or a new routine. My clients shift in their understanding of the importance of career in their life, beginning to understand that what they move into for career has always been about what they feel passion for.

My work as a career counsellor goes again to the root of issues with work. There is a soul level to the work we choose, a vocational element to it ("vocation" meaning a calling from the work—where the work actually chooses you rather than you choosing the work.) Having been through a number of different careers in my life I have the first-hand experience of knowing what it feels like to go through such transitions. For so many years I couldn't find my passion which created a lot of drawbacks in my life. Today I don't see these as drawbacks but stepping stones to be where I am today. I can help you find your passion through your journey on the path you are creating. We are all writing our own story and this is only a chapter in your book. To use positive psychology language and focus on solution when clients may be wanting to explore other careers or feel stuck in their current one. To assist clients remember and identify past adversities and their history of overcoming situational challenges.
