Depression is very hard for clients to deal with as they don't often feel understood. We often hear how it is hard to get out of bed and that doing chores is next to impossible. We use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well as narative therapy to help clients. We use a depression scale at our sessions so that we can monitor any changes and address those during our sessions. We believe in small steps and that there is hope for improvement and eventually a full life where the dark clouds lift and the sun comes shining through.

Depression can also mimic the "functional alcoholic" and we act in front of others like nothing is happening: we go to work, we go for dinners, we meet others yet we don't show up. My approach goes beyond surface strategies to help uncover what feels stuck, flat, or hollow. We work to reestablish a sense of vitality, meaning, and connection, not just symptom reduction. I work with clients to help me re-establish the meaning that has been lost.

We work with children, teens and adults dealing with depression. There may be many underlying dynamics for people coping with depressive symptoms including an unprocessed loss from the past, or difficulties processing emotions, including anger. We use a combination of approaches to support clients including CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), a psychodynamic approach, and IFS (internal family systems). We often incorporate creative approaches into our work with children and teens, including play, art and music therapy.

Feelings of low mood and depression is a common mental health concern but can still be difficult to talk about with others.
