Mary uses her empathic and intuitive nature to help clients with anxiety, insecurity issues, depression, trauma, postpartum depression as well as facilitating more effective communication and social skills. Her therapeutic approach is holistic and tailored to the individual or couple.  Therapy is influenced by scientifically sound methods such as EMDR,Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Adlerian ,Focus Oriented, IFS.
Gottman Couples Therapy, Emotion Focused Couples and Individual Therapy (EFT), Family systems, Mindfulness, and Person Centred to mention a few. Mary helps her clients recognize their strengths and use them to overcome many of life’s difficulties.  Mary believes that all things are possible when people have the support of a strong therapeutic relationship in a warm safe environment. Mary moves clients toward positive change in their lives through insight, self-understanding, clarity, and action.
Mary’s decision to become a therapist came after her own experience with a major life transition. Mary ‘s invaluable experience as a client in her own personal counselling journey makes her very attuned to others. She draws on her wealth of experience from many years of teaching, many years of marriage, parenting 3 children, and aging parents to embrace her client’s struggles and concerns. Mary believes in a collaborative counselling process treating each client as a unique, distinct, valued individual respecting his or her differences and diversities.

On a personal note, Mary comes from a large Italian and French family. She loves children and animals, especially one very special Cavadoodle.
Mary spends her free time listening to music, reading, taking long walks and enjoying nature, skiing, and good movies.  She especially enjoys a good meal and many laughs with family and friends.

The Counselling Process

The counselling process begins with the therapeutic relationship. This relationship is the most important aspect of counselling.  Mary believes that a therapist and client must be a good fit in order to get the most out of counselling. This is the reason Mary encourages new clients to have a free phone consult whenever possible before coming for the first session. Counselling comes with both benefits and risks. The risks being that sometimes talking about sensitive subjects can evoke strong emotions and it can take time to sit with those thoughts and feeling before you feel better. The benefits involve learning new ways to cope, better communication skills, and insight into thoughts, behaviours and feelings often changing the way you walk though life.  Counselling can also help strengthen your relationship with self and others and help guide you through a painful journey.
