Barb Douglass is a Master of Counselling –Psychology therapist who has worked extensively with families and individuals who have been challenged by diverse life issues. Barb strives to meet clients in the here & now. Based on her professional and lived experience, she believes the here & now can be the gateway to transformation!
Occasionally, life presents individuals with challenges that can result in adverse effects to one’s overall well-being. It is often these challenging experiences that prompt individuals to seek therapeutic counselling. Some initial questions Barb has for potential clients’ are: What do you expect to gain from counselling? What traits of yourself or life circumstances would you most like to explore? What if anything would you like to change? In understanding clients’ expectations and diverse challenges, Barb takes into account the emotional, mental, physical, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects of their being. Encompassing a holistic model of counselling, Barb endeavours to validate and dignify clients experiences in a respectful compassionate manner. She joins with individuals in exploring and confronting their diverse challenges using a wide knowledge of counselling theory, skills, and techniques. Barb supportively encourages clients to examine present beliefs, behaviours and perspectives, illuminating what changes in their thoughts, feelings and actions would be helpful in gaining a greater sense of well-being.
Barb advocates that clients seek to realize results and personal growth within a reasonable time-frame. During the initial session she will help individuals identify realistic therapeutic goals. Focusing on the here and now, Barb will partner with clients on their journey to help resolve life challenges.
