I will be running groups for children ages 8-12 and teenagers ages 13-17 (or almost 18) one to two times per year, depending on interest). I also incorporate stress-reducing techniques which will be demonstrated in session. I also work with individuals experiencing burnout, including work-related and caregiver burnout. Often times symptoms of anxiety are misinterpreted as some other physical ailment. I frequently receive doctor referrals for clients who sought medical treatment and who are surprised to learn that they are not experiencing medical problems. My approach to anxiety is demystify the anxiety response and to help my clients develop practical cognitive-behavioural strategies to reduce the perceived threat in their environment while developing effective coping strategies to bring about a state of relaxation and control.

Anxiety and Stress are the norm in today's world. Our fast-paced society pulls our attention in many directions and often away from ourselves. Being disconnected from our feelings, needs and wants is often a cause of anxiety. Mindfulness-based counselling is a powerful way to have us create an island of sanity for ourselves amidst the speed of our lives. By learning to reconnect with ourselves amidst the busyness of life, we are put back into relationship with our hearts and what is truly meaningful to us.

While most treatment approaches for anxiety and stress are effective on the surface, they don’t treat the real problem. Mantras, deep breathing, and rational dialogues about your fear being irrational rarely work---for most people don’t believe it or you! Imagine if you can trick the brain into changing without you telling your conscious mind that you are changing it? Problem with anxiety and stress is that the brain in this state knows you want to change it and it resists. Contact Kevin@kevinfleminphd.com for the ultimate stress and anxiety solution that will literally change your brain's autonomic nervous system patterns while you sit on your butt. 877-606-6161.
