I started my career in 1973 as a Licensed Vocational nurse at the age of 21. This was the first step to a
career I had not even envisioned at the time. I progressed in my nursing career beyond my own
expectations. I became licensed as a Registered Nurse in 1976 and enjoyed a 30 year career in oncology followed by an almost 20 year career in the field of vascular access. It was during this period that I enjoyed working as both an RN and a psychologist. I had many employment opportunities. I held several positions, many at
the same time, which helped in creating the diversity that has enhanced my career. As my knowledge and experienced increased, l was encouraged and motivated to do more. Included here was teaching graduate students in Pharmacology and Human Sexuality at Southern California Seminary, obtaining certification as a sex addiction therapist under Patrick Carnes and working as clinical director for Genesis Recovery.
Combining the medical experience and knowledge with psychology enhanced my work as
both a nurse and a psychologist. I worked in both capacities until mid 2023 and after almost 50 years as a nurse I elected to focus full time on my career in psychology.
In addition to general psychological services, I work with individuals and couples coping with sex addiction or the discovery of sex addiction in a partner. I also facilitate a recovery group for men dealing with sex addiction. The group is open to all men dealing with sex addiction. It is not required that you be a registered individual client. My practice has focused on men's issues with sexual and other addictions as well as anger and behavior management. Other areas of focus include relational issues and the associated problems of stress, anxiety, and depression and betrayal issues. Emphasis is on the Carns model using the texts Facing the Shadows and Facing Heartbreak.I specialize in the treatment of sexual and internet addiction offering both individual and group therapy. You will learn the origin of your struggle and find the path to recovery. You will explore issues surrounding intimacy disorders, social anxiety disorder. The goal is a fulfilling personal and relational life. You will hear the stories of others and be encouraged. I will share my own experience and journey through recovery.
I have a Christian background and incorporate that into the therapy process for those with spiritual beliefs and a desire to build the therapy on a Christian foundation.
