Hi there! My name is Joe and here are a few things about me and my private practice, Wings to Fly Counselling.

About Me:
I am currently a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I graduated with a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I also hold another master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, which helped develop my skills as a teacher at a post-secondary institution. I knew, as a teacher, I wanted to do more than just stand in front of the classroom, which, don’t get me wrong, I found extremely rewarding. However, I also enjoyed the one-on-one sessions with my students. It gave me opportunity to actively listen, observe and teach. That is what led me to the counselling path.
What I Can Do for You:
At Wings to Fly Counselling, I am here to work with you, to get through difficult times through mindfulness, self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-development. I am here to offer a safe and supportive environment and offer the most effective and helpful mode of therapy to reach your personal growth.
Transparency is important to me. If I am unclear about something, I am going to ask. If I do not know about something, I will work together with you to figure it out. I do not just stop at “I don’t know”. I have worked hard to integrate the best evidence-based approaches into my treatments.
Having said that, I do not structure my practice so that you can only follow my therapy approaches; I structure therapy to fit you and provide you the best support towards that path to happiness.

Therapeutic Approach:
Catering to you is my goal. I work with certain evidence-based therapies like:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

However, I understand that there is not just one type of therapy model for you. I will utilize whatever model it takes to ensure you receive the best support.
Therapy is a process that allows you to have the time and space to work on your presenting issues.
 Your struggles don’t need to be dealt with alone. Working with a therapist is the first step to overcoming your barriers and reaching your potential. Your goal for therapy will be based on what we discuss during that first intake session. I will listen to you from the very beginning to make sure the therapeutic process is properly tailored to you. Our goals can either be internal or external. Overcoming internal difficulties related to anxiety, depression and stress as well as external difficulties like relationships, work stress, grief or just fitting in.
