Faith and spirituality can be deeply important parts of a person’s life, identity and relationships. While I don’t provide specifically Christian or biblically based counselling, I warmly welcome clients for whom Christian faith is important and will respect the beliefs and values you bring to therapy. Love, attachment, belonging and the need for meaningful connection are universal human experiences, and I work with individuals and couples without judgment or bias. Your faith can be part of our conversations when it matters to you, while my therapeutic approach remains emotion-focused, relationship-centred and respectful of people from all faiths and backgrounds.

My experience in the Christian church provides me the context to which I can witness, understand and reflect your experiences, questions and concerns related to organized religion. Whether you are considering deconstruction, wanting to make a leap of faith into something new for you, or if you are simply wanting to explore your next steps in regards to faith, I am here to support your journey. 44 years in the Christian world has offered me the context to know what you are experiencing in your faith journey. Without judgement, I will explore your faith questions and journey with you to wherever that leads.

I believe that spirituality is a large component to building healthy relationships, overcoming life circumstances, and addressing big life questions. I encourage the exploration of your spirituality in the midst of your pain. My orientation is based on a Christian world view; however, I welcome clients with any religious orientation. Each session is built around your unique goals and personal world view. I welcome the opportunity to join with you wherever you are on this journey.

I am a practising Catholic. I use a common sense approach and I respect all religions. There is no right or wrong religion. My faith has helped me many times during my lengthy career. For 14 years I was a consultant with the BC Coroner's Office and I did psychological autopsies of teens that either committed suicide or were suspected of committing suicide. Many times my faith gave me the strength to support those grieving parents in the most terrible time of their lives.

Is anyone tired of traditional "Christian" Counseling? I know I came to that place in my life growing up, when I didn't just want to hear that God could heal all of my messes (even though I knew He could - if it is His will), I wanted to know that someone (hear on earth) had my best interests at hand too! However, there is still evil around us, and we certainly don't just want to put our hearts in minds into the hands of just anyone. It is important, in my opinion, to have an educated counselor that knows what he or she is doing, who also see's counseling as a partnership between him/herself (the counselor), God and the power of prayer, and of course the client.

Approaching counselling from a Christian perspective is not about relying on God to solve your problems, but rather learning how to align oneself to live and work within his created world and intentions for our happiness. Free will is an essential gift that allows us to explore this creation and find meaning and happiness that has been inspired by God. Developing a trust in God to guide and direct us in this task is an essential process in establishing faith that God will keep us safe whiling using our freewill and experience to look both ways before we cross the street.
