I am a Christian counsellor born, raised and practicing in the Christian faith. The laws of Love taught in the Bible are as relevant today as they were when the Bible was written. Jesus left us with His example and a set of principles, to guide us through the trials that we face in our current lives. Although the form and conditions of our lives now have changed, this guidance helps us to navigate through the challenges of the current day. My practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) includes an openness to The Holy Spirit to guide our process. Sue Johnson's book "Created For Connection" shows how EFT can help couples repair their marital relationship in the context of Christianity.

My experience in the Christian church provides me the context to which I can witness, understand and reflect your experiences, questions and concerns related to organized religion. Whether you are considering deconstruction, wanting to make a leap of faith into something new for you, or if you are simply wanting to explore your next steps in regards to faith, I am here to support your journey. 44 years in the Christian world has offered me the context to know what you are experiencing in your faith journey. I am a practising Catholic. I use a common sense approach and I respect all religions. There is no right or wrong religion. My faith has helped me many times during my lengthy career. For 14 years I was a consultant with the BC Coroner's Office and I did psychological autopsies of teens that either committed suicide or were suspected of committing suicide. Many times my faith gave me the strength to support those grieving parents in the most terrible time of their lives.

As a pastor and an evangelist, I have firm faith in God that I offer therapy with God’s loving kindness. As a pastoral therapist who aspires to strong principals, ethics, and Christian faith, I believe that Jesus is a key for all. I have a strong conviction that the goal of therapy should include both psychological and spiritual wholeness. Every situated proportions, it depends on the setting, theory of the belief system and expectations of the client. In my judgement the best way to accomplish this goal is walking through faith step by step. I will help my clients to rediscover the love, support, acceptance, collaboration, and kindness, and create a strong, loving relationship in Christ.

When clients specifically request our counselling sessions to have a Christian focus I am able to integrate scriptual teaching & Christian counselling research within the broader field of psychotherapy assessment & treatment. When I take a Christian approach I find that therapy works towards alleviating psychological stressors while helping people to appropriate a deeper understanding & appreciation of the grace of God.

As part of my graduate training in psychology, I also completed a Masters in Theology, as well as a pastoral practicum. My psychology training also included a focus on the integration of psychology and spirituality; how they can influence and strengthen each other. However, I never seek to inject my own beliefs into therapy! Rather, I feel it is important for me to understand how your faith and beliefs are a part of your understanding of your issues and how you can draw upon them. I try to see each of my patients as whole people, and that includes their faith and beliefs.

Angela is an experienced therapist who provides a Christian counselling perspective to explore a variety of issues that may be affecting you, your marriage or your family. As a Christian, my practice reflects that. My formal training was at a Christian University. Not all my clients are Christian, which is fine and something I respect. However, for those clients who are Christians, I will integrate prayer, Scripture, and Biblical principles and values into my counselling. Scripture, God's truths, give a road map into life's challenges. I believe the Holy Spirit guides me and gives me wisdom as I work with my clients as well. God loves you and wants you to live a life of healing and freedom.

In my practice, I use a holistic approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of my clients' lives. I see each client as having inherent dignity and worth and this shapes my approach in every way. My hope is that each of my clients can show up as they are, being free to explore thoughts and feelings, connect with their faith/spirituality, and develop the skills necessary to live a more fulfilling life.
