In today’s world, it is normal to feel confused as to what career path to choose, how to change the one you have right now and how to keep moving forward in the direction of your choice, to reach your goals, to reach your potential. I have worked with many individuals, nationally and internationally guiding them towards their educational and professional goals and dreams.

In our career exploration, we may use techniques such as free association, dream analysis, and transference to help you uncover underlying motivations, fears, and desires related to your career. By examining patterns of behaviour, recurring themes, and emotional reactions in the counselling sessions, you can gain insight into why you are drawn to specific professions, struggle with certain job-related challenges, or feel unfulfilled in your current work.

According to one study, about 75% of the population feels stuck in a job that they find unsatisfying. It does not have to be that way! It is possible to pursue a vocation that maps on to your values, passion, natural abilities and environment. Whether you are new to Canada, just entering the work force, in transition, or functioning with a disability - a career counsellor can help you explore your options, discover your passion, and develop your skills to make good decisions about your future.

Your chosen career path is a reflection of where you want to go and what you want to accomplish in your lifetime. However, due to physical, mental, economic, familial, or emotional limitations, among others, it is possible that you may feel you are unable to work towards your desired career path. Additionally, it is possible that you may be unaware of what your career path might be. In career therapy, we will explore your interests, desires, strengths and challenges, your spirituality, education level and social, political or economical limitations, to discover what work might be meaningful, suitable and fruitful for you. We will then create a plan to work towards your desired career path.

To incorporate an SFBT approach to help clients identify their own resiliency from a strength based perspective. To use positive psychology language and focus on solution when clients may be wanting to explore other careers or feel stuck in their current one. To assist clients remember and identify past adversities and their history of overcoming situational challenges.

Having changed career myself I understand how important finding happiness in a career is. We spend a lot of time at work and it is often linked to our values and sense of self. It is important to feel like we have freedom in our decision to engage in a certain career and to explore the thoughts and emotions that make us choose a career. Spending time talking to me about this can give a sense of acceptance and an increased ability to work towards change if so desired.

You will find our work together in counselling/ coaching very goal focused. We will met the aspects keeping you stuck head on! This work can range from figuring out your next steps to being concrete in your search and interview skills. Much of the work I have done to date has included learning more about the persons style and how to approach your career in a manner that highlights your skills rather then trying to fit you into the box you think you "should" fit into.

I help clients with addictive behaviours or substance use that is interfering with their ability to achieve a fulfilling career. Through collaborative conversations, clients gain a sense of purpose and direction, overcoming barriers to making meaningful progress in their professional life. Gaining a sense of control over one's life allows for increased confidence and self-esteem. I help clients build the motivation necessary to take steps toward a future filled with passion, thriving, and mental resilliance.
