In my family therapy practice, we will work on strengthening the overall health of your family system, not just resolving one relationship within it. Whether it is looking at conflicts that repeat, emotional distances that develop, or uneven power dynamics, I strive to create an atmosphere that develops clearer communication and safer connection. My approach places an emphasis on structure and boundaries so that conversations can be productive and emotionally safe, particularly when teens are involved. The goal is a calmer, more harmonious family environment where challenges and needs can be addressed without disrupting the sense of safety and belonging.

Communication.empathy and forgiveness work are a primary focus in family therapy with me. We work with many modalities including Traditional talk therapy: Giving space for the family to explore and express feelings, own awareness’s, transform thoughts, grieve, vent, and neutralize guilt, anger and fear. Our team specializes in working with parents through parent coaching, and directly with children ages 6+. We practice from a family systems perspective in order to bring about long term, sustainable change for all members of the family. We have an approach that is sensitive and down-to-earth, allowing our clinicians to join with family members across generations and cultures.

We are made for both being in relationships, and for being unique in our individuality. Putting these together in a way that honours both individuals and the family as a whole is an ongoing challenge. Our goals in family counselling is to clarify what those challenges are, the factors which contribute to them, and ways of resolving issues so the family and its members can not only survive, but can thrive.

We use an eclectic approach to family therapy and ensure that all parties involved feel heard and understood. We first like to hear from all parties what your goals and needs are in the therapy space, and how we can approach therapy in the most respectful way. Sometimes the difficulties occurring in a family are systemic - which means that there is not really a 'problem person' but a family interaction malfunction. In family counselling, it is understood that everyone in the family impacts and affects everyone else and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It is also understood that the way to 'fix' a family problem is not by simply changing specific behaviours, but by changing the structure of the family. This can be a very important process for the many different types of families that we have in our society.

Our families can benefit from family therapy when they experience any stressful event that puts pressure on family relationships, such as financial hardship, family fractures or break ups, or the death of a loved one. Some issues we would focus on in family sessions are improving communication and solving conflicts, exploring ways we can support a family member who is experiencing difficulties, and how to grow stronger moving forward. This often takes some compromise.
