I love the work I do and interacting with my clients; listening to their stories, finding the positives that they demonstrate and helping to dismantle the obstacles that challenge them. I am empathetic, a good listener and capable in supporting people to make the changes that will help them develop the life they want. I also appreciate that each client brings new perspectives and knowledge that helps me to understand people and our nature better and value the opportunity to work together.

I entered this field because supporting people in my life and helping them better understand one another seemed  natural for me and I liked being able to help people in those ways. I also enjoyed psychology and other human sciences. Through my education, I developed those abilities and learned many other approaches as well that have broadened my capacity to serve people. I also came to understand that while some people appreciate direct interventions, others are better served by conversation that develops their own stories to reveal the values, abilities and knowledge that they can use in the challenges they face.

I have been a psychotherapist/counsellor for over 10 years and started my private practice in 2012 which is now located in a beautiful 100 year-old house near Victoria Park (now an office building). I have a master of social work and am registered with the OCSWSSW (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers). I studied psychology at the University of Waterloo and received my master of social work from Wilfrid Laurier University. Since that time I also studied Couple and Family Therapy with Lutherwood and completed a year-long Narrative Therapy training program.
In my practice, I use a variety of approaches that I tailor to suit each client. My guiding principles are derived from Narrative Therapy that the story of our life forms the basis of both the problems that challenge us and the abilities we have that help us. Through exploring the client's experiences I assist them in understanding how the problems they are dealing with developed and find ways that are suited particularly to them to address those issues.

I also have a scientific and rational nature and use psychological, philosophical and sociological knowledge to contribute to my work and to encourage clients to have hope about creating the changes they want. I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) when suited to clients who prefer clear direction in therapy. In addition, I use Mindfulness meditation to help clients achieve a broader perspective and live in the moment.
