People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some are hoping to deal with a specific issue such as trauma and loss or are facing difficulty adjusting to a new role like becoming a parent or a new phase in their life. Some are looking to better understand their children’s behaviours and emotional needs and improve their family relationships. People who come to see me often feel stuck in self-defeating patterns and do not know what else to do.
Starting therapy for the first time can be scary, and I strive to create an environment of safety where clients can work at their own pace. My practice focuses on working with individuals (adults, teens, and children) and families experiencing distress related to trauma and loss, adoption, postpartum mental health challenges, and child-parent attachment difficulties. I also see people looking for support to cope with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and challenges in relationships.
My therapy approach builds upon a secure and collaborative therapeutic relationship and integrates evidence-based therapy modalities to tailor treatment to individuals’ and families’ unique needs and goals. Together, we explore patterns of thinking and feeling and new ways of coping and relating. With parents, my focus is on helping them identify and learn new ways to meet their children’s emotional needs and enhance their relationship with their children.
I am a clinical psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and I hold a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from York University. I have extensive experience providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, children, and families in a variety of hospital, community mental health, school, and private settings.
