Many of us struggle with depression, anxiety, loss, relationship troubles, stress, self-esteem, substance abuse or other issues. Psychotherapy can help work through such problems to develop healthier, more effective habits. My approach includes cognitive-behavioural, and insight oriented therapies. I provide a supportive environment that allows to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral and non-judgmental. We will work together to identify and change the thought and behaviour patterns that are keeping you from feeling your best. You will not only have solved the problems that brought you in, but you will have learned new skills so you can better cope with any future challenges.

First, I have to admit I’m biased. I was a client and caring and loving psychotherapists helped me save my own life back in the 1970’s, so I’m sold on it. You’ll often find that therapists who’ve been through that journey find they have a huge drive to help others find there own way through to themselves. I’m one of them. You can find who you really are and discover that it’s much more than you dreamed you could be.

People who come to see me often report feeling stuck and unable to cope with stress and day-to-day life. Many are also facing challenges in important relationships but don't know how to make positive changes. I help them take a step back and together we reflect on patterns of thinking, relating to others, and coping with emotions. This process allows them to learn more about themselves and learn new ways of coping and relating.

Psychotherapy addresses some of the same challenges as counselling does, but aims its focus more deeply on the psychological roots of problems and unhealthy behavior patterns. Some of our belief- and behavior patterns develop in childhood, others evolve through subsequent life experiences. In our sessions, I will gently help you understand your emotions, thoughts and action and where they might originate. We will explore possible sources of your stress, and I will guide and support you to become aware, that you can heal your past and explore ways to effectively cope in the present. 905-842-3626

Most people consider psychotherapy because they are in crisis and seek an intervention that will improve their lives. The issue may involve work or the recognition of recurring, destructive themes that prevent them from living out their dreams. I use a framework called Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, originating from Diana Fosha. It uses a model of attachment to establish a clear, supportive relationship that helps people feel safe enough to explore deeper issues and to know that they are not alone. I aim to help them reach inside themselves to deal with painful feelings, make way for the resilience and wisdom that reside in each of us and find the transformation we seek.

I provide a safe & non-judgmental environment for clients to open up on all issues, even deeply buried ones (from early childhood to present), so I can get a sense of the whole picture, ask the right questions, and come up with an effective treatment plan. I’ve successfully worked with many individuals & couples who others had given up on, since they weren’t able to go deep enough. This has allowed me to especially help people who are struggling with emotional or sexual trauma, incest, abuse, porn or sex addiction, sexual dysfunction, intimacy issues & taboos & fears which trap them in shame. I’ve also helped couples heal from deep wounds such as infidelity and build stronger relationships.

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing. Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety. There are several different types of psychotherapy and some types may work better with certain problems or issues. Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication or other therapies.

Psychotherapy and/or counselling is seen as forming a relationship between a client(s) and therapist, to enhance and promote well-being and mental health of individuals, couples, or families. Counselling can be helpful for you if you are experiencing distress and difficulties associated with life events and transitions, decision-making, work or education, family and social relationships, and/or pre-existing mental health concerns. The client is the most important factor in this process of change and growth, while we work on current skills and strengths and implement new ones as well. Psychotherapy can be helpful to receive a diagnosis, assessment, and better understanding of your well being.

Mississauga was turned in to a ghost town on November 10, 1979 with 218,000 people evacuated, when a freight train derailed causing a major disaster, which was carrying explosive and poisonous chemicals.  After the fire and the danger had been neutralized the residents returned to their homes.  Other cities modeled emergency plans after noting the speed and efficiency in which this disaster was handled which had been the largest peacetime evacuation in North American history.  A values grounded Mississauga counsellor will work diligently with you to identify and work through issues that block you from having greater joy in your life. Since its incorporation, Mississauga has only had three mayors.  Dr. Martin Dobkin served from 1974 to 1976, Ron A. Searle served from 1076 to 1978 and the notorious Hazel McCallion, “Hurricane Hazel”,  has been mayor since 1978!  Besides the mayor, there are eleven city councilors, each one representing a separate ward.

Mississauga enjoys eight miles of Lake Ontario shore line and covers over one hundred square miles of land.  In 1923, 1954, and 1985 tornados causing significant damage touched down in the area.  Massive property damage and deaths were reported.  The climate is variable, enjoying four distinct seasons.  Conditions vary from fog along the lake shore particularly in the fall to hot summer days and cold freezing winters.  Snow storms from the United States Midwest come with a volatile mix including sleet and freezing rain.  Several distinct people groups and beliefs are represented in Mississauga.
