Is your relationship or marriage struggling?
Too often couples wait for a complete breakdown of their relationship before getting help.Don’t wait for your relationship to be at its end before getting the support you need. Statistics continue to show the increasing number of divorces in our society, which tells us that all couples, even those that feel satisfied in their relationship, would benefit from putting in that extra effort to keep their marriage strong.
Why is it that some couples can stay happily together and others loose their way? Studies show that learning to fight right, practice repair attempts, create friendship, increase positive interactions, and decrease the interactions that most commonly lead to separation, can increase the quality of relationships.
The sooner a couple sees a couple’s counsellor, the increased likelihood that they will be able to turn their relationship around. I help couples identify their patterns and negative habits, and help them to make better choices so that their relationship can flourish. I give couples the tools they need to feel closer and healthier. Couples are amazed at how quickly a small change can help increase the quality of their relationship. People want to feel heard and understood while having their unmet needs acknowledged. Couples counselling enables couples to become unstuck from negative and unpleasant interactions and helps enrich relationships.
I offer support in:
- - Increasing positive communication
- - Mediation and conflict resolution
- - Over-coming negative interaction patterns
- - Building trust
- - Over-coming grid locked issues
- - Healing from past hurts
- - Creating shared hopes and dreams for the future
- Learning proven, practical, and effective strategies for making relationships work
Support through divorce or separation
If your goal is to separate, I provide a safe, compassionate space to help you explore and navigate this process while also coping with the multitude of changes linked to this separation.
Is your child experiencing emotional distress?
Are you concerned about some of your child’s behaviours?
Together with the family, I work with children to support them through any difficulties they are having. Through a systematic approach I help address family dynamics, explore the parent-child relationship, and the home environment to help your child overcome their challenges and build life skills to thrive emotionally, socially and academically. My goal is to boost emotional resilience and improve overall social-emotional development for your child.
Children who are suffering from anxiety and other mood disorders benefit from working with a gentle professional that can provide them with skills to help overcome their worries and other feelings. Normalizing their feelings, offering them validation, and then giving them the language they need to manage their feelings is invaluable for children who are suffering from these increasingly prevalent mental health issues. Parents are also taught the tools and language needed to support their children at home. Children often feel calm and refreshed, and armed with practical exercises they can use at home or school.
If you feel as though your child is exhibiting behaviours that make it difficult for them to manage their impulses, are having a difficult time concentrating, exhibiting defiant behaviour, displaying low-self esteem and/or having a hard time managing their emotions, I can help. Working first with the family, then the child, I will introduce evidence based tools to help the family manage these concerns with age-appropriate techniques. Children who also have a diagnosis of ADHD or ODD, and their families, would benefit from this approach as well. Contact me for a free consultation for more information.

Perinatal and Postpartum
1 in 6 women experience significant depression and/or anxiety in relation to pregnancy and childbirth, or after the birth or adoption of a baby.
1 in 10 men experience depression and/or anxiety following the birth or adoption of a baby.
Unlike the “baby blues” which typically goes away after the first couple of weeks of having a baby, postpartum depression can last for months. Postpartum depression and anxiety can be a tremendously stressful time for a family. Onset of postpartum depression may be during pregnancy, shortly after the arrival of a new baby, or many months later. It is often characterized by:
- - emotional instability
- - feelings of hopelessness
- - difficulty concentrating
- - loss of appetite
- - anger
- - guilt
- - tearfulness
- - worrying
- -anxious and/or intrusive thoughts
- - feelings of inadequacy
- - an inability to cope
- - loss of pleasure in everyday things
The sooner you get treated for these symptoms, the sooner you’ll feel better, increase your attachment and enjoy your baby. It is important to know that you are not alone. As an experienced clinician and a trained counselor with the support model through the Pacific Post Partum Support Society, I will teach you tried and true skills and techniques to help alleviate some of your symptoms and move towards a healthier, happier lifestyle.
I will also provide you with information and resources to help you understand what is going on with you and your baby to help you make healthy and reconstructive choices.
