Meet Rhonda Kotchapaw
I have a Masters of Counselling Psychology and am
licensed with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I'm also a
member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I have a
passion to walk alongside those who want to experience greater freedom from
issues that weigh them down.
I'm particularly passionate about walking alongside
those who have experienced abuse and trauma. In my private practice I approach
psychotherapy from a trauma-informed, client-centered, experiential,
attachment-based framework. I work with clients who deal with a wide range of
issues including complex trauma, PTSD, abuse, depression, anxiety, grief,
divorce, recovery from narcissistic relationships, etc.
My interest in
the helping profession grew out of my own backstory. As a young teen I witnessed
trauma up close and personal and while the initial traumatic event did not
happen to me per se, I was in the midst of it and it began to shape my view of
the world as an unsafe place. From that point on, I dealt with significant fear
and anxiety. My own journey helped me to see that there is hope for healing and
that we don’t need to be prisoners of the things that haunt us.
What Does
Therapy Look Like?
Therapy itself
is as unique as the person seeking help. While we have guidelines and
parameters as mental health professionals, each session unfolds based on the
client’s needs in that particular moment. And although I may have expertise in
a therapeutic modality, the client is the expert on his or her own experience.
As such there is an orchestrated unfolding of both the client and therapist
leading and being led.
While I draw on
several different modalities, my primary approach is based on Emotionally
Focused Therapy (EFT) – an attachment-based model of therapy. It utilizes the
power of emotion to guide and to heal. Like a smoke trail leads a lost camper
back to his or her campsite, so emotion can lead us to where we need to go. And
as emotion helps to move us toward action, so we use emotion to move us toward
healing.
Are You Ready?
Are you ready to put some of your issues behind
you? Are you exhausted from inner turmoil and feeling stuck? It would be
my honour to walk alongside you toward greater freedom and wholeness. I offer a
free 15-20 minute intro consultation to give you an opportunity to see if I
would be a good fit to help you with some of your challenges. I can be reached
by calling (613) 572-0679, or by emailing rhondakotchapawcounselling@gmail.com.
