Every person who comes into my office is unique. And while I may have seen someone else with the same kind of problem as you, no two people are ever alike. So I tailor my approach to your personality. And we will move at the pace that feels best to you. I have lots of different techniques and ideas on how to a tackle certain problems. But only you know what feels right to you. I respect that. At the same time, I will not shy away from giving you my perspective or my feedback. The therapy relationship is just that--a relationship. I am not going to "fix" you. I am going to stand by your side, offer you tools, and walk with you as you heal yourself. We will work together as a team.
I have been in the helping field since 1984. I began my work in
addictions, and this led me to the field of trauma and sexual abuse.
After that, my interest took me into a variety of areas, including relationships, anger, shame,
loneliness, insecurity, self-defeating behaviour, and every other issue that we humans tend to
wrangle with. I have continued to take clinical training on a regular
basis to stay on top of the latest thinking and methods in the
counselling field. I am honest, a straight shooter--what you see is what you get. I also have a sense of humour. Therapy may be hard work, but it doesn't have to be drudgery. Together we can share a laugh, even as we share a tear.
