I offer grief and loss counselling for individuals grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, employment or other difficult losses encountered in life. Clients will be supported as they work through their own individual grief process, encouraged to heal as they reinvest in their lives. At times we feel immobilized in our grief. Giving ourselves space to focus on the loss, how it affects us, and what it represents to us frees us to integrate our losses and heal from them.

There is no love without loss. And we can't move on until we grieve. It is a healthy rite of passage. I will work with you through the 5 Stages of Grief and the terrible feelings of loss. Although the past can't die, and the future can't live, we will focus on a healthy present. I will help you learn how to manage grief rather than permit it to manage you.
Nancy VanderSchaaf, D-CPC, Ph.D.
The journey through loss or grief can be difficult and can sometimes feel overwhelming. I can help get through the difficult times and places where people sometimes get 'stuck'. My certificate from UWO in Grief and Bereavement gave me the necessary training but I also have the ability to hear and walk with hurting people. Death of a loved one, relationship loss, empty nest, or job loss are only a few of the life losses that people grieve. I can help.

Are you feeling kind of lost, disoriented, with no energy, now that he/ she/ they/ it are gone?
Any kind of loss implies a change and any kind of change implies a loss. It can be from losing another person, a pet, a job, an expectation, a friendship, relocating and/ or loss of health/ a change in your body/ or a reaction following a natural disaster or a violent event. Have you tried to just "take it; tough it out" and not given yourself the time to really grieve and heal?
Adela can facilitate your healthy grieving. Through this process you can find your ground and re-create your life in a new way.

Most of us suffer loss at some point in our life. We may lose someone we love through death, breakups or other personal tragedies. Most of us have never learned how to grieve properly nor do we take the time to feel the loss as deeply as it has affected us. We try and keep busy and keep the overwhelming feelings at bay by stuffing our emotions down or ignoring them all together. Through therapy you can take the space to feel your feelings and be emotionally cared for in the therapeutic space. Unfortunately there is no way to get around feelings of grief and loss when we lose someone we love but somehow taking the time to feel the feelings in a safe space offers us the opportunity to heal.

Clients often present in counselling with losses such as the loss of a loved one, the loss of health or employment, or the loss of possibilities. In counselling, we can look together at the impact of the loss and how to continue living a meaningful life in spite of the loss. Clients often benefit from talking about their grief with a counsellor as they do not always have an emotionally safe place to look at the different angles of their loss.
