Psychotherapist

Gladys Funk, MSW, RSW, BEd

Registered Social Worker

119 Wortley Road, London, Ontario

I utilize Relational Psychodynamic Therapy in counselling sessions, maintaining an awareness on how my relationship with the client affects her/him and how the client is affecting myself as therapist. These can be very helpful clues to understanding relational patterns in a client's life, making it possible to then explore these patterns and find avenues to create healthy relationships and a balanced self.

The key is to find the right therapist and psychotherapy ... "what works" for you. Research confirms that a positive alliance between the client and the counsellor is one of the best predictors of outcomes in therapy. I am trained and experienced with numerous models of change. Clients report, however, that they feel the most heard and understood when I help them open up their emotions. John Gottman states that Susan Johnson is "the best couple therapist in the world." I have been trained by Susan Johnson and I highly recommend her book to you, Hold Me Tight, and also my Couples' 12 Emotional Needs Survey.

Psychotherapist

Amelia Holden, M.S.W., R.S.W.

Registerd Social Worker

286 Central Ave, London, Ontario

Some people avoid counseling because of stigmatization and fear of the unknown. By using the Bio-Social model it allows a full assessment which will guide the therapy in a structured manner and give the individual a goal to work towards. As well it allows me to start therapy where the individual is by building trust and understanding while giving them alternatives to acceptance and change. There is no more guessing or wondering what to expect because you are the driver of the vehicle and I am a passenger who will ask questions that may help guide you onto better things. Therapy sessions provides the individual an opportunity to become aware of their own well-being.

I've heard a lot of people tell me that they thought "therapy was only for crazy people". It's not. Psychotherapy can keep you from going crazy! Having a trained professional to assist you in making sense of your life can be a very "un-crazy" thing to do. Besides, the process can actually be fun and enjoyable. In additon, I offer body-oriented psychotherapy which integrates the awareness of the body in helping you to manage intense emotions or physical symptoms.

I encourage you to use the relationship we build with each other as a place to discover your self and experiment with change. I provide you with a safe, warm and confidential setting for you to open up and share the stories of your life. While we explore the many areas of your past and current life struggles, we also pay attention to present opportunities for growth.

Psychotherapist

Dr. Robert Unger, PhD., C.Psych. and RMFT

Registered Psychologist\Registered Marriage&Family Therapist

201-186 Albert Street, London, Ontario

Psychotherapy starts out as a discussion between two (or more) individuals. In my capacity as a psychotherapist,, I listen to what you are telling me, ask questions about what you think about certian things you tell me, and offer suggestions about what, or how, you might consider some changes in your thinking, or judgements. As a Registered Psychologist and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, my clinical training allows me to develop ideas about the causes of an individual's concerns, issues or emotiional conditions. My suggestions form the basis of psychotherapy that allows an individual to "see things" from a different perspective, and thus, may decide to make some changes.

Psychotherapist

Barry Johnston-Spooner, M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist

Registered Psychotherapist

40 Windsor Avenue in Wortley Village, London, Ontario

My role as your therapist is to assist you to explore, reflect and accept yourself. From the safe haven of therapy you probe what you feel, know and maybe fear. It is an in-depth conversation with me but even more with yourself. Through this you reach new perspectives: awareness, feelings, thoughts, intentions plus better understandings of what has happened in your life. From there you can make changes towards healthier actions - calmer and in a more balanced, assertive position in relation to others and yourself. Such personal learning can certainly be done without a therapist - they just assist. Like hiring any consultant, it should certainly be you who is in charge of this journey.
