Maribel Ayala is a compassionate and caring professional with highly developed interpersonal skills and practical knowledge in providing counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples (including same-sex couples), and families from diverse backgrounds. Her goal is to accompany each client on their journey to help and support them to gain personal insight and develop their talents and potential to enhance their well-being and quality of life. She uses a client centered approach and integrates various therapeutic modalities and techniques into her clinical practice including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Clinical Hypnotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Emotion Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Family Systems, among others.
Maribel holds a Bachelor of Arts from Western University in London, Ontario and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in New Brunswick. She is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, Canada’s National Association for professional counsellors and psychotherapists, and a member in good standing of EMDR Canada and EMDR International Association.
Maribel is registered with Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch as a clinical counsellor to provide crisis counselling for First Nations people under the Health Canada’s Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program and Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP). She is also registered with Health Claims for Auto Insurance to provide clinical counselling and psychotherapy services to clients that have been involved in motor vehicle accidents and are in need of support to address their psychological and emotional distress caused by their traumatic experiences.
Maribel has training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapy, addictions counselling, including culturally based competencies to provide clinical counselling and psychotherapy services to indigenous peoples, training in Emotion Focused Therapy for depression and anxiety, and Critical Incident Response (CIR).
Maribel specializes in anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, and PTSD. She also assists clients in addressing addiction problems, anger issues, life transitions, co-parenting, relationship management, stress management, low self-esteem, workplace, and professional issues.
