I help individuals cope with addiction by aiming to understand the root cause of the addiction and how this is currently serving the individual by keeping them safe. I work with individuals to identify their triggers and dysfunctional thought patterns and help modify their thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours that lead to addiction. While I don’t provide addiction treatment or substance-use counselling, I work with individuals and couples when alcohol, drugs or other addictive behaviors are affecting their relationship. My focus is on helping you understand what is happening in the relationship and find healthier ways of responding to each other while appropriate addiction treatment is addressed separately when needed.
