Heightened stress or anxiety is so common in our society that sometimes we fear that without the adrenaline rushing through our bodies, we would suffer from extreme boredom or worse, fall into a deep, dark depression. Unfortunately, the stress response that protects us in times of extreme danger actually harms us when left to run rampant. Finding safe, healthy ways to ‘self-soothe’ will increase physical health & also free you to enjoy your life more fully. Since we have absolutely no power to control anyone but ourselves & nothing but the present moment, decreasing our ‘stress response’ frees up energy that can be put into significant relationships & activities that bring life to us.

Anxiety and stress are common complaints in our busy world with many demands and little time. How does a person cope? I have found that anxiety and stress occur when we are not living in the NOW. We may be obsessing about the past or worrying about the future. Using mindfulness, I can help you to access the present moment, the only place where peace can be found.

Anxiety is a feeling of dread at its least, or thoughts that lead you to believe you are unsafe and/or about to die at its worst. I offer interventions to this challenge, all of which engage the brain and body. We can take a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach and examine and challenge faulty thinking. We can also use Neurofeedback (NFB) as an approach to calming the central nervous system so the frontal cortex of the brain can engage in logical thinking and keep the brain from having to go to the place of anxiety unnecessarily. Another approach I use, EMDR, helps the brain to reprocess old hurts and or trauma, taking the charge out of the experience.

They will learn strategies and skills to more effectively manage stress and anxiety, and learn to change their emotional reactions to stressful situations. It is my hope that clients will discover the capabilities that exist within themselves to create the peace and calm they wish to attain in their lives.

Anxiety for the most part is an important part of life as the Fight-or-Fight response is a powerful survival tool. If walking in the forest and you are confronted by a bear a surge of adrenaline is helpful. However, if one is experiencing this same intense response while walking through a shopping mall their quality of life rapidly diminishes. There are several effective treatments for anxiety, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systematic Desensitization, EMDR, and the development of positive self soothing skills. I incorporate these, customized for each person and their own unique experience with anxiety. You will be surprised at how fast your life can change.

My therapy approach for anxiety and stress counseling is a combined and integrated way to provide various therapeutic techniques and skills. It addresses the complex nature of these mental health challenges. To provide comfort, I quote Biblical scriptures for God’s healing touch. It is important to explore what is the source for anxiety and stress. Looking back past experiences helps clients to reduce anxiety attacks. Re-difining purposes and the existence of relationships, it is a way to solve complicated problems. It is to search for empowerment in their daily lives. I offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy ,Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Life is stressful. It's impossible to go through life without experiencing stress and anxiety. That said, there are ways to make the physical and emotional experiences of stress helpful allies instead of letting them get the upper hand. Anxiety tells us that something is important and we need to pay attention so we can evaluate what is happening and what it means to us. We may need to find a new way to respond. We have a greater capacity to change our worlds than we often realize. I would love to hear your circumstances so we can look at your situation with new eyes and unlock new possibilities!

Anxiety comes in many forms - constant worrying, a sense of loss of control, or the overwhelming feeling that something is going to go wrong. As humans, we all experience some level of anxiety, it's a part of our normal stress response to help motivate us and even keep us safe by thinking ahead to danger. However, when we get stuck in this experience and feel held back, it can be helpful to talk to a therapist. My approach to anxiety is to help you understand your unique reactions and triggers and guide you in building further strategies and tools to cope with anxiety in a way that is manageable and healing.

Symptoms of stress and anxiety can originate from many different sources, including issues related to addiction, the effects of addiction, infidelity, difficult childhoods, dysfunctional families of origin, and the impact of past hurts and coping patterns. By offering a setting that is based on trust, empathy, and collaboration, counselling can provide you with a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and emotions while creating a deeper, more authentic understanding of who you are, what you need, and the dynamics that you are navigating. It is possible to thrive and be well no matter what you have been through, and counselling can help with this.

Anxiety and stress are natural life experiences. Concern arises when anxiety interferes with a person's ability to carry out daily life responsibilities and/or when a panic attack occurs unexpectedly. Therapeutic intervention is then essential to manage the associated symptoms. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is generally the Gold Seal modality, albeit, a number of others interventions are suitable. Psycho-education is important to help the client understand the difference between fear and anxiety. It is also important to provide home exercises such as breathing activities, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation and other self guided exercises.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is often the modality of choice with issues of anxiety or depression. When the roots of either are found in thought distortions, CBT will be used. At times anxiety and depression might mask deeper concerns such as unmet needs, unspoken pain, frozen anger or other trauma wounds. Family systems, Compassionate Inquiry and CBT are used in these more complex situations.

Anxiety and stress can become overwhelming when left unaddressed, often impacting daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. In therapy, we’ll help you better understand the nature of anxiety and its physical symptoms through psychoeducation and practical tools. We’ll work together to identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts or behaviors that may be contributing to your stress, while also developing strategies to manage it more effectively. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore life circumstances that may be adding to your anxiety, and we’ll collaboratively problem-solve ways to address these challenges—whether that involves making changes, setting boundaries, or building new coping skills.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective way to help us examine the building blocks of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. We are not irrational beings who behave in random ways; we just operate on belief systems that may not be serving us very well. Understanding why we are how we are offers us the choice to be different. This same approach can help us to understand the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of other important people in our lives as well.
