I use a theoretically integrated approach that combines humanist, cognitive-behavioural, narrative, gestalt, and interpersonal techniques. I use a supportive reality based approach that focuses on processing the after-effects of challenging experiences and moving towards greater personal responsibility, and active decision-making in relationships. My goal is to provide a safe environment in which to explore personal beliefs, decide whether they are accurate, and then adopt and practice new beliefs and behaviours.

Each one of us experiences inner conflict, sense of helplessness, sadness and anxiety. Psychotherapy helps us reach within ourselves to better understand not only our experiences but our very selves. Self-reflection is the starting point toward the personal growth and development that helps us deal with intense feelings and troubling thoughts in a way that expresses who we wish to become as a person, our hopes and our values.

Psychotherapy is a unique process of self-discovery in which the client investigates, accepts and experiences the inner workings of his/her mind with the trained support and reassuring guidance of the therapist. This relationship is a unique, unconditional tool for growth. Using emotion as a catalyst, clients, with their own efforts, are able to heal their wounds and make fulfilling long lasting changes in their lives.

Psychotherapy aims to increase the individual's sense of his/her own well-being. Psychotherapists employ a range of techniques based on experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication and behavior change that are designed to improve the mental health of a client or patient, or to improve group relationships. "Helping other in their becoming" - the goal is to attend to the client - accompany them, supporting, facilitating, and participating in the clients own self-healing process.

Psychotherapist

Christina Bell, Registered Psychologist

Certified Sex Addiction Therapist

Red Tree Psychology 710 - 9707 110 Street, Edmonton, AB T5K 0J8

I describe Psychotherapy as the process of examining and addressing the underlying causes of the problem. For example, someone with anxiety symptoms may find medications helpful, but they may be unaware of their beliefs that promote their anxiety. Psychotherapy is about addressing the presenting symptoms as well as the underlying issues. This process may include the examination of thoughts and beliefs, family of origin work, and repetitive patterns. Not all of my clients are interested in doing this deeper work, and I respect that. However, examining our problematic symptoms at a deeper level can provide a rich foundation for long lasting change.

Psychotherapist

Ashley Hanson, MC, R. Psych.

Registered Psychologist

#200, 6732 75 St, Edmonton, AB T6E 6T9

I use an object-relations theory to psychotherapy. This means that we explore your early attachments and experiences to determine the assumptions you have made about your life. This should help you understand who you are, why you do what you do, and what you can do differently. I generally do not lead clients with questions, but give you the space to explore your past and how it relates to your future. The potential benefit to you is more self-control, better self-awareness, and feeling more connected to yourself and your emotions.

Psychotherapy also known to some as personal counselling, is an intended interpersonal relationship between a trained psychotherapist and their client. Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that aims and works at increasing the individual's sense of self-awareness. A psychotherapist may use a wide range of techniques geared to relationship building, exchange of ideas, communication and behaviour change with a view to improve the well-being of a client or improving group relationships (such as in family, friends, or even co-workers). At Loussa Counselling Centre we take a holistic approach to achieve individual wellness of the mind, body, and soul. Our approach is progressive, pure and natural.

I use various orientations depending on the individuals and his/her needs. During therapy with me, we look at issues from their childhood to the present day. Unresolved childhood issues can play a major role in a client's present difficulties. At times the exploration of past issues can be painful however I do it in an empathic, supportive and compassionate manner. I practice both Brief and Long-term Psychotherapy.
