Worry can be debilitating. I use cognitive behavioral therapy to help you identify worrisome thoughts and then challenge those thoughts by treating them like hypotheses rather than facts. You will learn to manage anxiety by caring for your body (exercise, eat well, sleep well), soul (exercise your brain through problem solving, creativity and experiencing emotions in a healthy way) and spirit ( exercise your spirituality through prayer and pursuing a relationship with God).

The type of therapy most often used for treating anxiety is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Many studies have shown it is effective. CBT works by retraining how people think through exposure. For example, a therapist might instruct a person who is anxious about leaving their house to go on short errands. As the person in therapy becomes more comfortable, they might leave their house for longer amounts of time. Eventually, they may feel more comfortable doing so. Although CBT is used most often, many forms of therapy are well-suited to work on anxiety. Therapy does not only treat symptoms of anxiety as medication does. Instead, it addresses the source of the anxiety.

Anxiety is something we all feel from time to time and for some, it is an emotion that can be so profoundly overwhelming and at times debilitating. Anxiety is often related to fear - and fear of the what if…? Trying to manage and control things in our lives - managing things we have no control over -a way to try and protect ourselves from bad things happening. It is sometimes amazing the loyalty we have towards our fear and our reluctance to let it go despite how much it controls our lives and hurts us. It is a feeling that can take away our strength and our hope. Counselling can be so very helpful in understanding and working through anxiety.
