Anger is probably the most misunderstood emotions and also one of our most valuable tools. Many of us have expereinced anger as abusive, brutal or scary. But don't confuse the feeling of anger with it's expression. The flip side of anger is passion. When we are really anger we are very passionate! We care deeply about something. Regardless of how it looks, anger is always a call for change. If we understand it and use anger to work for us, it never has to become large or mean. Instead it is like an inner advocate working for us with clarity and firmness createing the changes we need. I will work with you to harness your anger and get it working for you rather than against you!

My approach to treating anger is to use a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy with visualization and relaxation interventions. In this way you'll be able to focus on changing thoughts and beliefs that trigger anger. This can lead to anger reduction and better self control. I also use assertive skill training to help you deal with people who have treated you unfairly and have taken advantage of your good nature. It is important to become aware of situations that trigger your anger. . Enhanced awareness will help you pay attention to your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations that trigger anger to help you develop better self control and alternative coping skills.

Nobody wants to be angry and upset themselves or others. Anger is sometimes about current issues that need to be resolved through a good action plan. Other times it is due to deeper issues that need to be worked through. Anger is often a symptom of previous upsets or issues in our lives that caused us pain in some way. We will process those upsets through discussion and unique exercises created for you as homework or to be completed in session until they are worked through.

The key to anger management counseling is to teach skills and strategies on how best to deal with feelings and emotions; in other words how to cope with our feelings instead of reacting to them. It's ok to feel angry, but it's important to uncover what to do when those feelings creep up on you. How do you recognize that you are getting angry? What are your physical and emotional cues? How do you typically react? Once you can answer these questions, the solutions are right around the corner.

As we work together to integrate the experience of anger into your body, mind and spirit as a resource to protect you and those you love we will do more than manage the behaviours of anger. Stabilization of negative behaviours born of anger is necessary, not sufficient. We will through psychotherapy and integration skills embody the experience of anger so that it is owned by you and not acted out against yourself or another.

Anger can be something that seems to sneak up on people from out of nowhere, however, this is not actually the case. Anger is a signal that something is wrong in your life and that underlying issues need to be dealt with. By resolving root causes and becoming aware of your unique triggers before they reach a crisis point you can learn to manage your anger in a positive and constructive way.

I offer clients an individual anger management program. We work to identify the root causes of our anger and learn how anger helps and how it hurts us. We learn behavioural strategies to better manage our anger and address issues in an assertive way. Offering an individual anger management program allows us to focus specifically on what anger looks like for you, as well as the specific challenges that you may face.

Anger is probably the most misunderstood of all emotions. Anger is a primary energy arising from the biological imperative for survival and self defence. This energy gets twisted and mangled as we grow up in a society where anger is often expressed violently or completely held back and hidden. We rarely learn healthy and satisfying means to express this natural and powerful force. I don't believe anger should be managed as much as to relieve the history of inhibition through mind body connection, awakening of frozen defensive responses in a safe and mutually respectful environment and teaching the body to return to an optimum state for healthy defence and self-advocating as necessary.
