At Robin's Nest Clinical Counselling & Concussion Services, I will provide you with a welcoming and non-judgmental space to "hatch" new solutions to rebuild and recover. I have over 20 years experience supporting individuals and families with concussion/acquired brain injury, mental health and substance use/addiction. I am a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, a designation from the Brain Injury of America, that gives me a specialty in working with those struggling with concussion and more severe ABI.

I believe you can't create change without relationship, so support starts with fostering meaningful relationships and helping to develop effective short and long-term plans to achieve individual goals. I am respectful and calm in crisis situations, providing a safe space to share whatever is needed to promote change. I am passionate about assisting individuals to obtain resources, enhance support networks and well-being, and develop coping skills. Clients are able to explore difficulties in areas such as, anxiety, depression, challenging interpersonal relationships, stress, grief and loss, and difficult life transitions.

  • I have worked extensively with Acquired Brain Injury, including concussion and stroke, mental health concerns and substance use. I offer return to work and school support for those struggling with persistent concussion symptoms, and education and employment support for those with moderate to severe ABI's.

  • I worked for many years as a crisis counsellor with youth and families experiencing hardships. Being the parent of teens allows me to see both sides and gives me a relevant and unique perspective in this area. My experience as a youth addictions counsellor energized my love of working with youth and their families providing support, education and hope for those struggling with addiction.

  • Post concussion support is a specialty area that requires evidence-based and current information. Individuals are supported to create a plan to manage their ongoing symptoms and work collaboratively with me every step of the way. For couples and families, education is provided to help them understand the unique concussion experience of the person they care about. The goal of this is to strengthen relationships, and build resiliency together.

My approach starts with building a foundation of mindfulness that is influenced by Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), along with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Promoting self-compassion and self-care, especially in the context of post-concussion and addiction, will be key to the underlying foundation of our work together.
