About Kamloops, B.C.

Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, Canmore

Kamloops, founded in 1818, is located the Kamloops Lake with around 95,000 residents.  When the area was first established, it was inhabited by the Secwepemc Nation, which is part of the Interior Salish group.  Then the European settlers came around 1811 establishing a fur trading post.  North West Company subsequently established Fort Thompson in the northeast side of the area, followed by the establishment of the Pacific Fur Company the next year.  Counselling Kamloops, BC, assists couples and individuals by providing professional yet caring therapy with a qualified and credentialed Kamloops counsellor.  What we now know as Hudson’s Bay Company merged with North West Company taking control of the fur trading at Fort Thompson.  Another fort, Fort Kamloops, was built, but on the northwest side of the area.  During the 1860’s the area experienced a gold rush and the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. This brought more growth to the area with the city incorporating as the City of Kamloops in 1893.  The city’s name was recently adopted for a crater on Mars.

Kamloops was the first major city east of Abbotsford, which allowed Kamloops to become a major hub for the pulp mill processing, cement and copper mine industries.  The Canadian lottery tickets are also made in Kamloops.  The climate in Kamloops is considered semi-arid because of its location in the rain shadow.  Fortunately, this means that the winters are fairly mild with a cold snap every once in a while.  This will occur when arctic air will surge over the Rocky Mountains.  Christian counselling Kamloops, BC will guide you towards healing and resolution by working through the hurdles in your life.  While the temperatures will normally stay around 20 degree Fahrenheit, but when the cold snaps occur, the temperatures will fall to 22 degrees below Fahrenheit.  Even though the city is located at 50 degrees latitude, the summers can be fairly warm and dry, with normal temperatures reaching the mid-80’s during July.  With the area being so dry, this creates prime conditions for forest fires.

Kamloops is located in British Columbia, Canada. It has a land area of 299.25 square kilometers.  The population of Kamloops is 132,663 people with 36,814 households . The population ranking for Kamloops is #63 nationally and #12 for the province of British Columbia with a density of 301.70 people per sq km. Kamloops therapists serve postal code: V2C.
