While most treatment approaches for anxiety and stress are effective on the surface, they don’t treat the real problem. Mantras, deep breathing, and rational dialogues about your fear being irrational rarely work---for most people don’t believe it or you! Imagine if you can trick the brain into changing without you telling your conscious mind that you are changing it? Problem with anxiety and stress is that the brain in this state knows you want to change it and it resists. Contact Kevin@kevinflemingphd.com for the ultimate stress and anxiety solution that will literally change your brain's autonomic nervous system patterns while you sit on your butt. 877-606-6161.

In our modern society, we are constantly surrounded by stressors: work, relationship, past hurts, guilt and shame, illness, abuse, etc.. I use various counselling methods to help you become aware of these anxieties and fears, and then teach ways to reduce their control over your life. Clients routinely experience improved self-image, a renewed sense of hope and purpose, and a greater sense of personal freedom.

Anxiety is a feeling of dread at its least, or thoughts that lead you to believe you are unsafe and/or about to die at its worst. I offer interventions to this challenge, all of which engage the brain and body. We can take a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach and examine and challenge faulty thinking. We can also use Neurofeedback (NFB) as an approach to calming the central nervous system so the frontal cortex of the brain can engage in logical thinking and keep the brain from having to go to the place of anxiety unnecessarily. Another approach I use, EMDR, helps the brain to reprocess old hurts and or trauma, taking the charge out of the experience.

Stress and anxiety are a normal part of being human, but when they begin to take up too much space in your life, it can feel exhausting. These experiences exist on a spectrum, and you don't need to wait until things feel extreme before reaching out for help. Therapy offers a supportive space to explore what's contributing to your stress, learn strategies to manage anxious thoughts, and build a greater sense of balance, confidence, and emotional resilience.

While our bodies are perfectly designed to adapt and react to stress, modern problems mean that we tend to detect life threatening dangers in very ordinary places. Conflicts at work, arguments in our relationships and uncertainties such as the post-Covid world activate old survival mechanisms. We may be stuck in the buzzing, fear states of ‘fight-flight’ or the numb and paralyzed states of ‘freeze and shut down.’ The good news is that I have a long history of safely and successfully helping individuals and couples to reduce and release stress using a variety of CBT and mindfulness techniques, as well as trauma-informed therapy. You have my commitment to compassionate and educated care.

Anxiety is exhausting partly because it never really clocks off. The mind keeps scanning for threats. The body stays braced for impact. You might replay a conversation from three days ago, plan for seventeen possible outcomes, or stay perpetually busy just to keep the worry from having too much room to move around in. It's a full-time job, and nobody applied for it. In anxiety counselling, we get curious about what's actually driving the alarm, not just how to turn the volume down. Turns out most anxious minds have very good reasons for being anxious. Finding those reasons tends to change the relationship with the worry itself. Not a cure. But real relief.

When working with clients experiencing stress and anxiety, I often draw on both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) approaches. CBT helps us identify and challenge the unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that fuel stress and anxiety, replacing them with more balanced and supportive ones. DBT complements this by focusing on building skills like emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness, which can help clients manage the intense feelings and reactions often tied to stress and anxiety. By integrating these approaches, I aim to support clients in developing healthier coping strategies and fostering a greater sense of calm & control in their lives
