Is anyone tired of traditional "Christian" Counseling? I know I came to that place in my life growing up, when I didn't just want to hear that God could heal all of my messes (even though I knew He could - if it is His will), I wanted to know that someone (hear on earth) had my best interests at hand too! However, there is still evil around us, and we certainly don't just want to put our hearts in minds into the hands of just anyone. It is important, in my opinion, to have an educated counselor that knows what he or she is doing, who also see's counseling as a partnership between him/herself (the counselor), God and the power of prayer, and of course the client.

IF on the other hand, you are reviewing this section in fear that I may be a “bible thumper” or a fanatical lunatic, I want to assure you that it is never my intention to force anyone to “get converted”. As a Christian, it is actually impossible for me to relate to my clients in an authentic way if I deviate from my worldview. My faith based approach to counselling offers help towards healing and change. I am warm and non-judgmental, able to help with issues surrounding divorce and separation, co-parenting, anxiety and depression and anger management. I use my own faith and belief to lead my efforts in the counselling process. Through the help of a trained, professional counselor you can feel supported in any life transition.

While I don't offer "Christian counselling" as a modality, I am a counsellor who is a Christian. I have a degree in Theology, and before becoming a psychotherapist I spent 10 years in pastoral church ministry. Many who have been part of the Church and ‘church culture’ have been impacted. Sorting through faith experiences and one’s theological beliefs is part of what might lead you to seek a Christian counsellor. For anyone who is deconstructing or reconstructing their faith, has experienced pain or abuse within in their faith community/clergy, or are simply interested in a biblical approach to psychotherapy, I can help with that.

When clients specifically request our counselling sessions to have a Christian focus I am able to integrate scriptual teaching & Christian counselling research within the broader field of psychotherapy assessment & treatment. When I take a Christian approach I find that therapy works towards alleviating psychological stressors while helping people to appropriate a deeper understanding & appreciation of the grace of God.

For every client that I see, I always offer an individualized and tailored approach by draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches in order to enable your mental health healing and functional recovery. Using a collaborative and client centered approach, I will walk alongside you and together, we will explore solutions to overcome life's obstacles.

I am a Christian counsellor born, raised and practicing in the Christian faith. The laws of Love taught in the Bible are as relevant today as they were when the Bible was written. Jesus left us with His example and a set of principles, to guide us through the trials that we face in our current lives. Although the form and conditions of our lives now have changed, this guidance helps us to navigate through the challenges of the current day. My practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) includes an openness to The Holy Spirit to guide our process. Sue Johnson's book "Created For Connection" shows how EFT can help couples repair their marital relationship in the context of Christianity.
