Alycia Chung, M.Ed., Registered Psychologist
I am a Registered Psychologist practicing in Edmonton, Alberta.
Psychology is my passion and I continuously seek out ways to expand my skills in order to provide the best possible care.
I love working with individuals who have endured life’s challenges but refuse to be defined by them. I admire the courage it takes to reach out for support, especially if you’re not used to having someone you can trust. Your bravery is what motivates me to be the best therapist I can be.
I genuinely care about my clients and a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of our work together. I won’t tell you how to run your life, because I believe that you’re the best expert on you. However, I am happy to share any knowledge, tools and resources that will leave you feeling equipped to handle whatever life throws your way. Success to me is when you can use the knowledge from both your mind and body in order to make choices that are healthy for you.
I am grateful to have worked in a diverse array of settings throughout my career. I’ve held positions at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE), University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre, Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).
In addition to my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, I have undergone formal trainings in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Clinical Hypnosis, Sensorimotor Processing Psychotherapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy among others.
My extensive work and educational experiences allow me to offer treatment for a vast range of concerns. I counsel individuals on issues related to Depression, Anxiety, School and Occupational Stress, Boundaries and Communication, Sleep Concerns, Caregiver Burnout, as well as Difficulties Adjusting to Life Transitions and Illness.
I have an expertise in the field of sexual violence, and frequently work with survivors of abuse and/or assault, accidents and injury. I provide counselling for survivors of all genders, and have specialized training in male survivor issues.
I offer counselling for individuals struggling with unhealthy relationship patterns and/ or insecure attachment styles. We work together to identify healthier patterns of behaviour and develop strategies that set you up for success.
What People Report After Counselling With Me:
Feedback from my sessions has been positive. Clients have told me that they could feel my genuine care and concern for them. They often feel clearer about the nature of their issues and the ways in which they can approach them. They feel confident in their ability handle situations and more optimistic about the future.
