Hi! My name is Erefaa Ogbuaku Jnr (pronounced Eh-reh-fah), Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), EMDR Therapist, and Mental Health Advocate residing in Ottawa. I am originally from the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I love music, enjoy a good laugh, dancing, and spend time with family and friends. I am a compassionate and empathetic therapist with experience working with young adults, individuals, and couples on a variety of issues such as addictions, stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma amongst others, from diverse backgrounds.

Being a wife and mother, I understand the struggles and dynamics of a family unit and the challenges that individuals and couples encounter. My concern for the welfare of others, and my own life experiences have further steered my passion for serving and supporting others in their own path to the fulfillment of their lives through success and challenges.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I have served individuals from multicultural and diverse backgrounds and ethnicity for over a decade and also worked in the community serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness and addictions and supporting immigrants settling in the community in areas such as acculturation, identity issues, interracial relationships, being a parent in a bicultural society or growing up different.
Every now and then, life throws a curveball at us which could leave a person feeling confused, alone, and unenthusiastic about life. It could also make it challenging to complete daily tasks. Surely there’s another way right? To live life the way you want to, and feel truly happy and fulfilled. Like George Harrison says, "It's all in the mind". I truly believe that asking for help is a sign of strength, and it means you are aware enough to take care of your mind as you do your body.
Contingent upon your specific need, I utilize a client-centered approach from a cultural, trauma-informed, and inclusive framework while integrating techniques such as Attachment and Commitment Therapy, Eye-Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).

You have taken the bold step towards mental wellness by seeking therapy. Being aware that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all, we will work collaboratively to implement a treatment plan that is unique to you, in a safe and non-judgmental space, to understand your values, culture, beliefs, and reality, while encouraging you to be the best version of yourself. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you towards self-actualization.
