Hello!

Welcome to my page :)I am a counsellor for woman who aims to create a warm and welcoming place where clients can come to explore, grow, and find increased healing from difficulties.
I have over 15 years of experience working with individuals to find healing from: - Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and         Complex PTSD- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) - Depression- Anxiety - Body Image Issues- Women's Issues - Sexual abuse and/or sexual assault, physical abuse, and emotional abuse- Attachment Trauma - Self-harm- Stress
- Borderline Personality Traits

The first step to healing is often reaching out to someone, breaking the isolation.   I honour your courage to do so.  I would be delighted to walk alongside you on your journey.  My little Bichon Frise, Dixie, and my snuggly Cuban rescue, Playa often join us on the journey!

After obtaining my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, I have pursued Post-Graduate training in:
- EMDR (Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)- Internal Family Systems informed EMDR - Ego State EMDR Attachment Based EMDR- Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Somatic Based Trauma Therapy)- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)- Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERP)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)- Emotion-Focused Therapy for Eating Disorders- Narrative TherapyParent Child Interaction Therapy- Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)- Attachment/Development Theory
As a highly relational person, my attuned attention and compassionate nature support a large part of my practice.  I firmly believe that healing takes place, partly, in relationships.  It is within the therapeutic relationship that I tailor theoretical approaches to meet each individual's unique strengths, desires, processes, and needs.

I have several areas in which I have specialized training.  I have considerable experience working with women who have been impacted by trauma, experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma (sometimes diagnosed as borderline personality disorder).  I am trained in EMDR, and a somatic-based trauma therapy called Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.  I also work alongside of women who experience obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and draw from a combination of exposure-response prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy to help clients overcome obsessive and compulsive thoughts and behaviours.   These approaches are also helpful to support women who experience depression and anxiety.

Because my practice is geared towards women, I also support clients with struggles related to being a woman.  Whether it is struggles with self-esteem, self-worth, body image difficulties, PMDD, experiencing sexism or misogynistic behaviour, or battling socially constructed views of ‘womanhood,’ I aim to empower women in their journey.

I am licensed to see clients who reside anywhere in BC.  My in-person office is located in Harrison Mills between Mission and Agassiz and I also offer online (phone/video) counselling.  Please refer to my website for more information: www.heathermacpherson.com   Take good care and looking forward to journeying together  :)
