I use a combination of Narrative, Solutions Focused, and Emotion Focused therapy to help clients address the underlying pain informing feelings of anger. Clients can experience anger getting the way of important relationships or preferred outcomes. Sometimes anger has been an adaptive and helpful response for clients in the past, and one that they want to choose to live with and respond to a little differently now. I aim to help you understand the causes and subsequent triggers in order to better respond when these feelings arise. Book a consult to see if we would be the right fit.

Where is your anger really coming from? Where do you feel it in your body? What sort of rage takes you over and renders you completely out of control? Anger is a complex emotion that is often misunderstood. It is actually a result of profound sadness transformed into a physical and often violent outburst. Working with anger is not just about coping with the events that bring about the response, but digging deep into the cause of the sadness and resultant anger and rushes out of you often unexpectedly. Let's work together to solve this mystery—with the dual goal to lessen the symptoms as well as to find the deeper cause.

Anger is often a misunderstood emotion. Like all emotions, anger is a normal, healthy emotion to have. We are hard-wired to feel anger and the emotion does serve a purpose. Anger management is about understanding our anger better, and learning to express it in healthier ways. Sometimes beliefs like “we should never be angry” encourage us to bottle up our feelings. We may also have feelings about our anger, such as shame, fear or embarrassment. In my work with clients on anger management, we work to understand the triggers for their anger, learn to accept all emotions including anger, and learn effective communication and coping strategies so anger does not damage their relationships or their health.

Therapy for anger management can be helpful for both your close relationships and the workplace. Therapy integrates strategies to regulate emotion, tolerate distress, and express frustrations in a manner that is respectful. If your anger difficulties occur exclusively within the context of a romantic relationship, couple’s therapy or therapy with a couple’s therapist can be particularly helpful. New Leaf Psychology Centre also offers anger management therapy for children and youth.

Anger has a lot to do with repressed fear. If we don't allow fear to be released we tend to take our anger out on the people closest to us. Certain situations will trigger us if we don't know how to control our anger if we aren't dealing with underlying issues. Often if we are not consciously working on dealing with managing our anger it doesn't just go away by itself. Simply having someone to talk to and listen to us helps alleviate a lot of our understanding about why we are angry. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a very beneficial modality to consciously put anger in check. Having a safe environment to share your thoughts and let go of your feelings is another way to release anger.

All human beings feel and express anger, and thus anger itself is not necessarily bad or good. It's a normal emotion which can sometimes be harnessed to motivate us towards our goals. At times, unhelpful thinking patterns make us vulnerable to being triggered into angry behaviors impacting our relationships and well being. There are many useful tools available to help address the causes of anger, helping clients to understand themselves and their motivations better. Better understanding often translates into more control and an increase in emotional regulation.

Anger is a common and useful emotional reaction. However, there are times when anger is excessive or extreme and controls a person to the point that it is hurtful to them, their life, and their loved ones. I work with clients to understand their experience of anger, learn to identify potential triggers and underlying issues, and develop coping skills to manage these issues and emotions. Clients will learn relaxation or calming strategies, how to communicate to reduce angry outbursts, problem solving skills, and how to alter negative thinking which may be contributing to the anger. This often results in clients feeling happier, more relaxed, and having improved relationships.

Anger is one of the healthy and normal emotions. What can cause problems is unhealthy expression of anger. Clients benefit from working on strategies for managing the triggers that lead to reactive outbursts of anger. The next step is to find healthy outlets for this anger- and there are many. Anger can be a cover for other feelings. Benefit is achieved from working on these underlying feelings and expressing them in healthy ways, within the safe compassionate space provided by the therapist. Reactive patterns have been learned in our early years. It is not helpful to judge them. It takes practice to learn new ways of handling anger.

Anger is typically expressed negatively which results in strain for every individual involved in a situation. It can drive an individual to cause injury and pain (both emotionally and physically) to others. When this occurs it is an indicator that seeking help may be effective in gaining control of their emotions. The most effective way to help those with anger management issues is with cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy raises awareness and concerns of the individual’s cognition and corresponding behaviors and how they impact the environment and people around them. Resultantly, the individual is provided with insight on how to change their perspective and how to b

Understanding the roots of your anger can go a long way to empowering you to respond in ways that best suit the situation, leaving you feeling satisfied and content, rather than reacting in ways that feel the most relieving in that moment but leave you regretting your behavior, long after the event. I can help you learn to express your feelings more appropriately and take back the power that anger has had over you in the past.

Anger can be a strong emotion. When used in an unproductive way, anger can harm us (i.e. self-criticism, self-injury), and harm our relationships (i.e. blaming, criticism, aggression, inflexibility). However, when this feeling is used in a healthy way, it can give us some important information about boundaries, needs & expectations. It can also help to motivate us to make necessary changes. In therapy, we can work together to get a handle on anger and harness that energy in healthy, helpful ways. If you're wanting to find ways to manage your anger, book a consultation or session with one of our clinicians to get started now! www.kaleidoscopecounsellingco.com

Anger is an emotion, and like any emotion, it serves a purpose. When proportional and effectively directed, anger can motivate us to act and make changes. But when intense and expressed with fighting, swearing, and as an “explosion,” or inward toward yourself, it can lead to harm for both oneself and others. Together, we will explore the benefits of expressing anger effectively, learn how to not “bottle up” emotions, and delve into how cultural and family influences may have shaped your patterns of anger expression. Additionally, we will identify and practice skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

The use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is something that many anger management therapies incorporate. By trying to get a patient to open up about their emotions and feelings and being driven to accomplish a specific task (in this case controlling anger), a person can see positive results in their behaviour. By slowing down our thoughts, we can catch ourselves when anger presents itself and choose an alternate course of action, more in line with our goals.

Anger is not necessary an unhealthy emotion. It can give us energy, clarity, and move us toward much needed action. However, when anger becomes habitual it has the power to overtake us and derail our jobs, our relationships, and ultimately, our peace of mind. Anger management therapy is a process which involves self-discovery, emotional processing, stabilizing techniques, and often deep discussions regarding a client's family history and historical processing styles. Yes, anger can be all-consuming, but there is always hope for people who are willing to fight back when their emotions threaten to boil over and consume them.

Anger is like many emotions we experience - it can get too hot to handle and when it is not dealt with it causes problems for ourselves and others. It can often lead to relapsing into addictive tendencies, having conflict with others and doing and saying things we regret later. At OWA Therapy you will learn to deal with anger by understanding where it is coming from and developing ways of regulating it. Instead of anger calling the shots, we will learn to get in control of anger and become empowered enough to choose how we express it.

I tailor anger management treatment to the unique needs and life situation of each client. What distinguishes my approach is that I do not simply counsel people on how to act, nor do I gloss over the real source of the problem. This would be akin to putting a band-aid over a gaping wound. I know that the only way to effectively make a permanent and recognizable change is to address the root cause of what is fueling a person's rage, explosiveness, and destructive behaviour. I treat people with sensitivity and compassion surrounding their emotional vulnerabilities and difficulties that cause their disruptive affect, which negatively impacts their lives and work collaboratively.

People who deal with needing to manage their anger are often dealing with the effects of past trauma and a lack of validaiton in their environment. I use Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Dialectical means "the existence of opposites." In DBT, people are taught two seemingly opposite strategies: acceptance (i.e., that their experiences and behaviours are valid), and change (i.e., that they have to make positive changes to manage emotions and move forward). DBT teaches mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and radical acceptance; I offer DBT as either a stand-alone treatment, or as a support to people participating in DBT skills groups.

Anger is an emotion like any other emotion. When channelled in a healthy way, anger can be a great motivator, and it can be an appropriate response to injustice. On the other hand, anger can be very destructive. Anger pushes people away, it alienates those who are close to you, it controls others (and yourself), and it can be abusive. Anger is typically the way we have learned to express deeper emotions, our core emotions. These emotions include: hurt, sadness and fear. If you attend one-on-one counselling with me or one of my associates, you will learn the following: communicate your core feelings; recognize your body warning signs; change your thinking; and relax!
